I want elections on TE

won't be as democratic as it sounds

there is no identity for any vote to be counted, people might just create zillions of accounts and ridicule the whole election.

That won't be a problem. When we had elections on FE, Safin made a script specially for the voting system.

Lets not split TE.

Any thoughts of elections send people into favoritism mode.

The idea of a fair and even election is a myth. It doesn't work that way. For an election to proceed, you need to "select" a president of sorts, and that defeats the purpose of an election right from the outset.

In fact, who selects the Adhyaksh? Who decides on how to proceed? If any one man suggests something and you follow that, you have already chosen a leader.

Let TE remain as it is, because it is one of the greatest place to be on the WWW.

Its a good idea.

How is this proposition ? -
Only the long standing global moderators, who are more the founders here, should be in the elite panel and don't have to stand for elections. IMO all the section mods should be elected. Only members with 1000+ posts should be able to apply and only members with 500+ should be able to vote.
If I am right, there were some elections introduced in FE that decided selection of staff/manager.

wrong!
should be on the reputation:ohyeah:

I like things the way they are. It still pains me that the majority of India still vote with their "emotions" instead of basing their decisions on logic and good sense. Don't want that kind of scenario here.

Now if the the present crop of mods where not upto the mark, I might've agreed but the way things are" don't fix it if ain't broken".

Mr. vij

You are a long standing member, and hence have the right to play an active role in the future of TE.

As for your suggestion of giving people the power to vote simply on the basis of post count is downright ridiculous. I joined in April of this year and have 285 posts (including this one), whereas I know members who joined in the same month and have over 500 posts, some over 800 even. I am not saying that I have been lying low, or that the others have been spamming. What I am saying is, that people who have been a part of TE far longer than me and a lot of other members, people who have seen TE being born, who have seen TE learning to walk, and who have seen TE turning out to be the great sprinter, they should be the ones to have any say in the management and future of TE. Post count is subjective, but long standing membership, and more importantly a good reputation are better measures of a member.

I hope nothing like this comes to pass here at TE, but if it does, then I pray that only stable minded people are involved from beginning to end.

You just havent learnt the art of spamming and hence, you dont deserve any rights in a general election! :P

@ phoenix

Sorry, Did I offend you?

In any case, I already agreed that reputation should be more of the deciding factor. Look above :)

Yeah I recall a post here on TE where someone was crying that you were spamming his inbox for your election campaign :bleh:

Not at all! I was just alarmed at the suggestion. I saw your post with the agreement right after I posted. :)

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. If Rahul Gandhi can travel in local trains to gain a few votes, I can surely spam a few profiles. :P And at the end if it all, I did win! :bleh:

I vote for Mayawati Behanji ...lols :D.

Mind you, I ll get you a small part of $$ from her birthday kota :P

PS:- j/k'ing, don't shoot me.

No democracy please... communities that elevate people on the basis of trust, experience and knowledge are the best.

The old-fashioned Panel of Elders rule.

I was thinking this is a privately owned forum and its up to its owners.

Do you pick mods based on popularity or on effectiveness/suitability ?

...and would you be able to distinguish between the two with a poll ?

oh man, i cant imagine what would happen if there are elections on TE like we have in our country.

i dont want to see TE mods divided into 2 camps like cong and BJ* fighting for majority and then having small groups like man'hani'se and saveTEsena starting some ruckus like spamming market sections and reporting genuine users to mods etc...
rofl.. i cant imagine further...

I am glad that it is racking up some talk atleast. Its just an idea. In all probability its not gonna be done. But the idea of it is fascinating.

Do you think representation would work out better than the situation is now? Has anyone even considered that it could work out for better than worse?

I think its a good idea, but implementation and followthrough could be a pain. :)
