I'd say go for the AMD, because it's got more cores.

Neither sockets future proof, because AFAIK AMD hasn't actually said bulldozer will be a socket AM3 cpu.

If you can wait till then, you'll know for sure if AMD's new chips will work in your AM3 board.
AMD Bulldozer will be on socket AM3r2 and will be backward compatible with AM3 and no DDR2 support

^ you're right.....the news isn't reliable...so..... there's no actual word from AMD about if bulldozer will be backward compatible, and no information as to when they'll let us know for sure either.

What most of you guys are forgetting here, that 90% of us do a platform upgrade, even though if a processor is backward compatible. No point in using an older platform, and throttling the newer processor's speed/power usage etc...

So when deciding to upgrade, give importance to socket update, only if you consistently upgrade processor without upgrading platform.

^ true...
I'll be doing a processor upgrade soon, but mainly cos I've got DDR2 ram, and don't want to shell out for some new ram now.
But the OP won't be having that problem....DDR3 should be around for quite a while.
