[/COLOR]@ asingh. dude i usually put a very small drop of TIM at the center of the HS of the proccy and use the pressure generated by the HSF to spread it out. But i have also tried the other way round by putting the TIM at the center of the HSF. Also before application I clean the HSF base and CPU HS with rubbing alcohol. Both the times there was no difference. I have repeated this 3-4 times every time the temps were more or less the same. I am pretty sure I am installing the HSF properly so it must the TIM. BTW i am using the TIM supplied with the HSF (a small syringe of a TIM called bluefrost), which AFAIK is not very good at thermal conductivity
Try to spread the thinnest possible layer on the CPU heat spreader this time round. Not saying what you did in the prior installations was incorrect, but this might do the trick. I always found this better vs. pea-dot+pressure...! :)

That could be a sad driver update issue,I have a friend who's having the same problem, A simple Formatting the HDD and a catalyst update would have done the trick.

@OP : I suggest you remount your HSF , things might improve then. Also, do another clean OS install on a newly formatted HDD, might do the trick and yeah reset CMOS.
No bruv it was a workmanship fault, the heat-sink was not making direct contact with the GPU-core, thus it got fried. Sadly.

hmm i just can seem to spread the TIM. Might be I have got clumsy hands :P. But lets see once i get the tx-3 delivered 2rw i will try to spread it in a thin layer. BTW the stock crappy intel TIM proved that my previous TIM crapped out, my load temps have now dropped by 10 C :D . Under prime 95 at stock speed now i am maxing out at 63-65 C instead of 75-77 C. At 4.2 GHZ @ 1.27 v i am maxing out at 100 % load under prime 95 at 73-75 C again previously it was 83-85 C. Cant wait to see how much i can drop my temps with the TX-3. (probably another 6 C or so i guess)

Shinetsu is not THE best but yes it definitely one of the best TIMs, but its not easily available locally or otherwise. The only TIM that pABGB has in stock is the tx-3 which is very good and at par with mx-2,3, Noctua HT-1 etc and much much better than AS 5. then again how is the H70 in terms of performance? I have heard its not better than a high end air cooler.

BTW guys i am using a NZXT Tempest EVO case with 6 fans and my ambient temp (according to my desire HD) is 33-34 C. My case temp is 38-39 C at idle and 42-43 C at load.

great stuff..

yash. dude how much voltage are you using @ 4.2 Ghz?

thats a pretty good OC. I have just hit 4.4 Ghz @ 1.224 v. Under intel burn test the maximum temp I am getting is 75-76 C. What temps are you getting?

75-76 temp is not good for proccy life... try to keep it under 72c...

could anyone tell me why are cores 2 and 3 running hotter than the other 2? :(

67*C on both Prime95 and IntelBurnTest @ 4.2ghz

Core sensors seem fine. Uneven HSF surface and/or TIM application. Not much you can do about this.

dude those temps are great considering you are using a hyper 212+. moreover 1 or two cores will always be hotter than the others by a few degrees due to different turbo levels

dev, I'd need some inputs here. The 2500K I have seems to be DOA. Initially I suspected the board but the processor wouldn't boot with other P67 boards either. So need to RMA this chip.

Could you tell me the process? As in how do I go about with informing Intel about this.

gannu if you have purchased the processor within the last 30 days you will get the replacement from the dealer you have purchased it from. Intel's warranty policy is that within 30 days from the date of purchase, the replacement is handled by the retailer/reseller/distributor but after 30 days you have to RMA the processor from the nearest intel service center.

Press your dealer to talk to intel & he will give the replacement

PS: you can contact intel through their live chat support on their website

sorry i mean idle temp 40-43

with stock cooler 46-48.my previous core i5 760 use to be around 40 with stock cooler

yeah the D-14 and the Eclipse II are similar in performance & i am also getting 40-43 C at idle at stock speeds. But my ambients are quite high ~34-35 C and also I am using a crappy TIM so with a better TIM i expect my temps to drop by another 5-6 C. You should try reseating the HSF & spreading the TIM as suggested by asingh, may be that will help. In my case since i have got a DT cooler i got the best results by applying slightly more than the usual amt on a vertical line at two heatpipes on the base of the cooler. This gave me the best possible contact.
