Looking to make the move to the i7 platform. Seen a number of boards and I think I finally narrowed it down two the few I liked -

Asus Rampage II Gene
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Asus P6T6 WS Revolution

Planning on pairing this up with either a 920 or 950.

Mods - Please move this thread to the CPU / Mobo section.

Wow super choice of motherboards sir !.
The Rampage II extreme is a wonderful board.
I have had it for 7 months now and it has run flawlessly for me...No complains what so ever at all..If there was any other board i would think of getting apart from the Rampage II extreme , then it would be the x58 Classified from Evga.

They both have the Build quality of a Tank. Will give every other x58 Mobo a run for their money in terms of build quality and quality of components used...

I have heard that the classifieds should be arriving on our shores very soon :).
but also remember that these are 2 of the most expensive x58 motherboards out there.
While keeping in mind that most x58 motherboards are just about as good for less money. notably msi , gigabyte, dfi and biostar.
The rampage II and the classified only make sense for hard core ocing and benching.
I would suggest the ud5 or the DFI boards for normal usage and they oc like champs too.

For me though...
Rampage II extreme or the Evga Classified are the only 2 i would choose from though sir :)

evga x58 classified if u have the money to burn.

asus p6t dlx if you are a regular person.

asus rampage II gene mATX if you wanna build a HTPC.

I Recently got myself the Asus P6T Deluxe v2. I have to freakin idea why the boards are so highly priced compared to the Gigabyte EX58-UD5. It's like even no way near the UD5!

Used both boards , because I had a DOA issue with the board (was detecting only 2gb RAM) so got the cash back and now on the Gigabyte UD5 and cannot be happier with it's performance. :)

So of course I'd recommend the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 anyday!

Intel X58 only has dual channel. The main reason to buy core i7 is to get triple channel.

Asus P6T deluxe ( not V2 ) is very good. V2 is giving problems to many users but people who have used first version ( atleast most of them ) are extremely happy with it.

asus boards have the best Quality. Gigabyte is nowhere near.

I guess DX58SO does sport Tri Channel RAM support.
Why do you think Asus boards have better build quality than Gigabyte boards ?

+1 for DFI T3eH8 and Gigabyte UD5. Decently priced, heavy on features with reliablility at its best. :gap:

PS : i should go into marketing :gap:

Intel X58 has tri channel, just that it has only 4 DIMM slots. And anyway the performance difference running triple channel memory is negligble

And where have you read that P6T deluxe is giving problems to many users? Any link?

Core i7 has an on die triple channel memory controller. It does not have anything to do with the Chipset or the motherboard brand.

Wrong again !! I have owned premium boards from Asus, Gigabyte and MSI. MSI and Gigabyte have equal and sometimes even better quality boards. My current rig has a Gigabyte X48-DQ6 and its a rock solid motherboard. Remember Gigabyte bought in the much touted all solid cap designs for their motherboards long before Asus did.

From next time, plz do a bit of research before making confident statements like that.

:chair:to OP for not including Gigabyte Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and putting only bling bling mobos.

I recommending googling out for benchmarks before choosing a board but IMO I think one should wait when ddr3 will become mainstream in India. This way we will get better rams and we might get better options from AMD. If you are going ahead with it, let me remind you that people with 533mhz facepalmed themselves when 667-800mhz ddr2 rams became mainstream and the price was way lesser than what people burnt out their pockets for 533mhz rams.

I am using Biostar which has been a good overclocker for my 920(DO) and has good overclock options also ,Its TP X58

^ +1 Biostar Tpower is a very good board .. great clocker .

DFI is the best IMO .. but unfortunately not available in India , ordering from KMD wil be risky as DOA rate of DFI's is generally high .. next best option is the Gigabyte or the Biostar ..
