Review ICICI bank - an unbelievably incompetent bunch of people

There's an RBI rule that banks cannot charge dormant accounts any fees. I had this problem with a foreign bank. They changed the rule in between from zero balance to minimum 50k per month and it was my old salary AC. I told them to give back the money they stole from me and they ignored. So I complained on RBI website and even the VP of retail accounts called me to defuse the situation. He got my account into non dormant state and told me to put money into it. I told him to give me my money back. In the end the bank didn't give me my money but it was open without any minimum charges for around 4 years. Now again it went dormant and I certainly don't care. Why would I put money in a bank that steals from me?

But a few days back they stopped their app from working on android phones with dev options enabled.
Which phone is this? I've been using iMobile on my primary phone that always has dev options enabled right from day one. I have not run into any such issues. May be it is device specific?

It totally depends on the zone, area and locality.
@Pimpom Whats your village/town/city name btw you didn't mentioned ?

In metro or tier 1 cities the staff hired is well-educated while moving down obviously the local people mostly suck with their work attitudes, discipline, lingo and what not. They will treat even a world-class co. like some lower class govt. office. Thus, the brand starts suffering owing to such people and brands are forced to exit India.

Here are my experiences:

Online/App/Netbanking: Always had an A1 exp. with ICICI , AXIS and SBI (except for their piece of crap- Yono)
Worst exp. with HDFC/HSBC/YES

Branch visit: A1 exp. with ICICI, SBI and AXIS while never ever visited HDFC/HSBC/YES.

Phone banking/queries: I think all of the banks suck here! Basic ivr option of speaking to the CC is hidden deep inside as if we are playing some 10th level of Doom on a hard level and then we are going to get access to speak with their hidden girlfriends and wives. I have literally given such feedback once connected. And they are like ok sir we will share your valuable feedback further..

More to add, the CC nos. mentioned behind the cards are simply hopeless rather useless and one has to google for an hour to find the correct no. to dial which again is a chargeable one so prepaid users have to ensure they do a sufficient recharge before performing such dialing operations..

My brother had Axis bank account but when he left the job that account was left untouched, recently when we checked the account after several years they asked 7k+ just to close this account because bank kept on charging for services we never registered (Rs750+ for demat account, we never knew existed along with other charges)
Yeah. That's why I said let it go dormant. Why even bother closing. Negative balance doesn't go into accounting of the banks. It's a purely fictional number from the standpoint of accounting. Banks themselves don't care about it. They never ask customers to pay for negative balance. It's there to fool some 'bakara' into paying. Free cash per say.

Same. I'm using imobile on my pixel 6a with developer options enabled. It worked properly and I've even paid bills from the apps. Even Gpay works. And Gpay is more strict than Indian banks regarding such things.

I think I've read somewhere in reddit that some banks are not allowing users with Android 8.1 to log into the apps and forcing them to buy new phones.

I have not faced any issues with any banks till date, even SBI. My SBI acc was opened by giving my pan verbally (Not the card) online kit was handed to me in 10 mins and I was logged in my SBI after 2 hours. No issues whatsoever. Of course I rarely visit any branches. I would not do that unless there is no other choice. Private bank staff are extremely sales driven, keep that in mind. They can go to any lengths to meet their targets. Applying online you easily circumvent those vultures, I don't pick up calls from banks because the guy calling is calling to meet his/her own targets not yours :). As many have said your experience will greatly differ from wherever you are.

Great then I won't bother paying a rupee to Axis Bank, this account is dormant anyways.
Regarding ICICI Bank I never had any issue with them but this guy ruined all the good rep bank made in these years now I will change this account from 10L to 10k because this account is still at 10k min balance. Keeping ICICI debit card helps in online deals but now almost all the banks give good discount on CC so discount on DC will vanish soon. Time will tell but keeping this option open for now.

Why shame and judge ICICI just because someone else had a bad exp. ? You should go with your relation with them.
I have already highlighted that experiences will vary from zone to zone. You cannot expect metro city services in a tier 3 city or village area. Localities are employed and so their attitude towards work also differs considerably.

Its not someone else who had bad experience rather Its me and my brother, you can check my post in this thread for referance also I don't live in a village or a remote area of a city. I am from Lucknow and its not tier 3 city either.

S20FE 5G, maybe you are using an older version of the app. If so, don't update the app.
All my apps are up to date always. I'm on version 16.2 of the app (says last updated on 28-Feb-23). Can you check yours? It should be some other glitch and not the developer option!

Mine is 16.3. I even put a 1-star review on 20th when I started facing this check, even got a standard reply to my review on play store to disable dev options to use the app.

Do not update your app.

ICICI branch near my home (we have 2 accounts here); for whatever work we visit they keep saying pls come tomorrow or 2 days later sir. It isn't that crowded at all anytime.
Meanwhile they keep chatting useless things with "selective" customers. Such a useless pos branch really.
Is it useful if I complain about this branch to their higher-ups? I guess the whole ICICI is like this.

Here's my recent experience with ICICI. I own an ICICI Wealth Management account.
My income is in crores and I have been a happy user for the past 5-6 years with them.
Everything is online and to be honest, I never get to visit them once in the last 6 years.
Every penny is white money with clear records of Tax.

One day they have frozen my account due to "Unexpected transactions volume".
I immediately called my relationship manager - no clue. Talked to customer care - no clue.
Had to visit my branch, and then they mentioned it was frozen by a central team and they can't reach them.
They had to consult the regional management head to clear this. The twist: There was never an unexpected increase in transactions/volume/irregular money.

This took sweet 1 week of time with no access to money.
What if I had an emergency situation and can't use my own money?

Its well-maintained Salary income and loan payments. The whole system was good until you hit with some rock and then you got to chase.
Some dumb IT guy wrote a stupid algorithm and on the other end, an entire family living on that account gets hit.

If you are buying a house and give a cheque worth lacs to transfer to the other party, then they start asking you questions. Faster to do in the app instead of RTGS.

The ICICI Bank app is a pita. Every time I restart the phone, this stupid page opens in chrome

Dumb people think only they develop Android apps. I need developer options to mirror the phone to my laptop. Uninstalled the app and their site it trash too. Infinity dot icicibank dot com times out when I try to login from the home page. Time to search for new Bank I guess. Once bean counters take over managing day to day operations, the bank is done for. This will go the SBI way.
