I was planning to take a credit card from the ICICI bank but some of my colleagues happened to tell me they have stopped issuing one ever since recession struck. They somehow seem to be advertising the CC options in their website though.

Has anyone applied for one recently? Is there any particular segment based on the monthly salary for which they would issue a card?

TIA

BTW I've got my salary account tied with ICICI bank.

I applied in last month. My account has about Rs. 50L-60L transaction/year.. even tough they are asking for Rs.50,000 deposit.. That is LAME.. :@

Don't know why ICICI is doing this...

No issues AFAIK. Apply via an agent if possible, avoid direct. The agents push the applications ahead as they can get between 300 -750 Rs per accepted form.

the ones who hang around your office and follow you around when you're going for smoke/chai.

Go to the largest branch around you, and just take a trip of the ATM just for kicks. Some 2-3 lalluu's will surely approach you 'Saaar card le lo na'...

Ha ha thanks for that! There used to be a time when we used to get irritated thanks to the calls from these customer reps from ICICI - guess all that has stopped for quite a while!

Exactly....now the frequency has decreased...sometimes back i got call for SBI card...i refused as it was not free :P

I work in risk/credit management - a LOT of banks have stopped sourcing CCs, as they're the worst unsecured loans around. HSBC, ABN to name a couple - you will NOT get a new CC from them right now.. they're focused on turning their portfolios around.

Nope. Limited sourcing is going on. Your best bet is to approach a branch of ICICI Bank. What you could do is tell them to source against an existing card.. it's the safest surrogate for them.

On a side note, what's the easiest card to get right now for someone who has just started out? My cousin is 23 and has been working for about 2 months on a 25k-ish salary but StanChart and ICICI have refused him credit cards.

In all cases, these so called agents are the best way to ensure you get a card.

Else, If you have a salary account in good standing with a particular bank, then you stand a good chance to get a card from them.

Why don't you guys check out citibank? The online application is easy, and I have yet to see anyone not get one. The schemes are good too. Or walk-in to a shoppers stop and go to the first citizen desk, they have forms for the Citi-Shoppers-whatevers card.

My SBI card got rejected even though i submitted all my proofs and all .. Its now not even dependent on your salary (so i think ) .. The main question they asked me was do i have another Credit Card .. Now it makes sense as to y they asked this question ..
ICICI and SBI have declined a lot of cards lately and this trend will continue ..

Though a Word of advice (which i am going to do next) .. Get a fixed deposit of around 25-30K in the bank .. they can then Issue a Credit card to you based on this Fized deposit which will act as a security

Icici has gone in major losses in both CC and auto loan business(NPA assets).....They now give cards with strong credential or strong guarantor plus some security with banks like FDS or minimuma quarterly deposit of atleast 25k quarterly.....(as told by my frnd who works in yes bank)

If you just started working-- it might be best to NOT get a CC. If you still want to go for one, get it from some PSU bank at least.
