Most of the banks like ICICI, HDFC, Kotak charge 35-40% interest rate.

Those 35-40% charge applicable only on delayed payments. Normally there is no interest on current pending amount provided you have not any pending balance in previous statement period.
I would also recommend ICICI for excellent services. I am using ICICI CC since last 3 years and never faced a single issue with them.

Guys, one more thing. Make sure your credit histories are clean. CIBIL reports are now being widely used, HDFC pulls 250k reports a month from CIBIL. Other large users are ICICI and the SBI and PNB groups. They've all put in place very comprehensive risk management systems, and even minor delinquencies or swings in your credit score will result in rejections for all your loan applications.

on the contrary, i know a previous colleague of mine who cannot payoff his cc dues and keeps taking loans on his cc. customer care seems to call him atleast twice a month from other cc companies trying to offer him upto 1lac in loans :S

he already got two or three loans sanctioned this way even though his name is in CIBIL :S :S

Bah I got this response! :|

Dear Sir,
We thank you for your interest in ICICI Bank Credit Card services.
We wish to inform you that in keeping with ICICI Bank’s current policy, we have temporarily discontinued issuance of credit cards from July 2009 and hence at present, this request cannot be processed. I regret the disappointment.
If this facility is reinstated after the next policy review, the same will be communicated through our various channels.

Looking Forward for your co-operation to serve you better.

In a way if I am the bank agent, and know that you have a debt on a CC... you would be my target for a personal loan :) (As the agent would meet his sales target )
I agree it doesnt make sense from banks point of view.
interesting use of CIBIL data.

Yes I was saying about the interest rate on the pending dues only.
