@Konquerror, sure about the 5% supermarket-ebay too?

Yes damn sure!!! I have got cash back on ebay purchases. So it is 25% (20%+5% cash back) discount on ebay :hap2: Only catch is that maximum cash back is limited to Rs 500/- per month. Check my last statement

So theoretically they are saying:

1. Give us 20,000.

2. We give you a credit limit of 17,000.

3. We will charge interest on late payments and pending amounts.

4. You also pay 500 as annual fees.

Which boils down, to they are managing RS. 20K for you, charging you interest on your collateral against which they issued you the original RS. 20K AND you pay a fees for this. Tell this bank to **** off. The CC model does not work like this. Is this ICICI...?

I am using the same card based on the FD for the past 1 year. There are no annual fees for me. The fixed deposit is like a normal FD and you will get actual interest on it. I put the 20k for a 390 day period and the interest rate is 8%.

So I think its a good facility, you can get the card from the branch in a matter of 15 minutes. Also the interest rate for your balance in the CC if you don't pay the full amount is only 24% per annum whereas for normal CCs, its about 35-40%.

In my case, I don't have a job yet, so it's very difficult to get a CC and this was the only option.

Anyway since I am holding this card for 1 year and have always paid the full amount and have a good history, I would like to apply for a normal CC based on this. But most banks I checked has a minimum age limit of 21 or 23 years. Can you tell me some banks which has a lower age limit?

What should I do?

I live in Meerut. Work in Gurgaon. Have been in the same company for past 5.5 yrs. Working as a senior manager in a reputed firm having international as well as pan-india presence which is a global leader in its category. Having a salary account with ICICI since 2004.

No loans on me. Good maintenance of saving balance. Still ICICI or any other bank (HSBC, StanChart, etc.) have refused to give me CC stating the city I live in (Meerut).

Is it possible to get a CC against office address? I need it for international shopping purposes.

I would be grateful for any help.

^^

You commute daily ...Meerut ---> Gurgaon. If you had a rented house in NCR, you could easily get a CC..?

... the salary accnt should be ur ticket.

My only CC is from AXIS and its where my salary accnt is also. and my credit limit is also depending upon my salary. so as someone said abt the FD maybe salary is also a good security for them.

Recently i had a issue with AXIS though. not a issue per say. but annoying anyways.

I had a EMI for 6 months. Last months, January, was supposed to be my 4th payment. but when the statement came they put 4th and 5th together.

when i called the CC they said i have to pay the amount and they did this due to some banking dates or something like that. they said if i needed to know more i have to write to the CC. Paying the amount was not a pblm so i didnt bothered and just paid. Atleast those morons could have said to me earlier. I only use the CC for utter emergencies. my main use for the CC is EMI. after this i am like..

I work for Oracle. I have Standard Charted Manhattan Platinum card...this card is quite good. There is cashback of 5% on all supermarket purchases above Rs 500/-...and their offers are nice...right now they are offering 20% off maximum Rs 750/- on ebay. Also you will get additional discount of 5% if transection amount is more than Rs 500/- as ebay comes under super market :hap2: Also there is a offer of free ticket with every ticket in PVR. They offered me this card free for life time. Right now I'm pretty happy with this card...this is the only card giving me cash back.

Well I asked specifically is there any charge in future. Their representative said it's free for lifetime. They told there is only one time joining fee of Rs 1399/- which they waived for me. Their representative will come tomorrow. Will get more details from him.

Yes...these credit card people will always try to add some additional chargeable service while signing up with card. Keep your eyes open while signing any document. While I was taing Standard Charted card, they had one document for some card protection plan...i refused to sign on that document. Thats it. Read each and every clause before signing on paper.

I found stanchi , pretty good. I got super value titanium. Good Cash back on petrol, supermarket and telephone bills.

Kotak trump is also good with 10% cash back on restaurants.

Hi docs,

Nice suggestions, but if we do same than there is possibilities that 90% time they will not offer any card (exception if your bal. with bank is in lakhs), as THE FINE PRINTS are major EARNING SOURCES for EVERY BANKs.

Even when I ask same, as above HDFC tele caller, she put the phone down :@

dont be so formal.

call the executive home. fill the form, strike out which is notorious and does not interest you :P.

than tell him to wait a minute and get the form copied, and give it to the executive.

he will be dumbfounded , and cant do anything.

AFAIK : CC forms are precounted and numbered from HQ, the chaps doing field duty get incentive on submission itself (whether it rejected or accepted) does not matter. But if a form is misused or not used after issue its trouble for whole chain of marketeers.

then give your office address for cc.
after getting the card change address to house address after 6+ months or so if required, or if you leave the company. all your cc statements will come to office address though. and if you don't pay bill on time, phone calls and maybe people asking for you too.

UNION BANK OF INDIA

Well finally I signed up for Deutsche bank Landmark Platinum Credit Card. Below is the detail of this card. This card is free for lifetime. And offers are too good:

1. Buy one get one free at PVR Cinemas

2. Buy one get one free at Fame Cinemas

3. Buy one get one free at Book My Show

Other benefits are also there. Only catch is the cash back you get would have to be spent at Landmark. They have Platinum Select card in which you will get cash back directly to your card. The one time joining fee for the same is rs 1999/-. But I will use my card only for purchasing movie tickets ;)

Even I am not salaried but would like get a CC for some internet related transactions that can't be done using debit cards, especially the ones involving paypal!

Since I am not salaried yet, CC against FD is the only way I could get a card I guess. Which bank asks for lowest FD? Or which bank is good overall in terms of credit limit, cash limits and interest on FD. I am not worried about interest charged on payments as I won't be defaulting ever! :)

From SBI you can get a CC based on a min FD of Rs 10000 and credit limit will be 90% of the FD value.

Anyway I would recommend ICICI, they have excellent netbanking, good customer care. Getting the card is also easy. I got my card in my hand within 15 minutes though it takes 24 hours for it to be activated.

There is no such thing as an SBI card. GE issues and manages those cards in the name of SBI, and they plain suck.

and check this out for the ICICI credit cards.

Cricket, F1, Movies, Photography, Musings, Bakar, Blabber: Ridiculous.

Actually, it's a company called SBICPSL - The CEO of the company is an SBI nominee. GE does the entire backend, including embossing, printing, collaterals and risk/credit evals. Even the customer service is GE. The entire operation is based out of Infinity Towers, Gurgaon, right across the road from the RBS headquarters.

SBI does the front end sourcing.

Guys, one more thing. Make sure your credit histories are clean. CIBIL reports are now being widely used, HDFC pulls 250k reports a month from CIBIL. Other large users are ICICI and the SBI and PNB groups. They've all put in place very comprehensive risk management systems, and even minor delinquencies or swings in your credit score will result in rejections for all your loan applications.

Yes..Deutsche Bank guys also told that they check your past records by pulling out reports from CIBIL. So if your credit history is not good...it's highly that your application for new credit card would be rejected.
