I am using ICICIDirect from the past few years and am satisfied with their range of services. I buy shares very sparsely and have tried FNO trading. Listing the pros and cons as per my experience. I have never tried any other service so this might be biased.
pros.
- perfect integration with your ICICI Bank account for transferring money to and fro.
- wide range of additional services like BTST(buy today sell tomorrow), margin on shares held, Futures and Options, IPOs, Mutual funds, Curreny trading(separate charges?), Overseas Trading(separate charges) etc.
- periodic stock recommendations and review/track of earlier reccos.
- Facility for setting automatic reminders for stocks to buy/sell. Easily available freely on other websites too.
- Single window for tracking all my investments.
- Call to trade facility when web access is not available.
- In the past 4+ years, I have never had the site fail to carry out my buy/sell/other requests. When delay of even few seconds matter, I'd rather pay higher brokerage than risk losing money to a choked up network.
cons
- brokerage charges are higher than most other options. There are slabs and discounts depending on volume of trades. Personally I feel that these are ofsetted by the additional services.
- a few stocks are not available for trade. especially penny stocks. They regularly update the list to remove/add to it.
- Many FNO offerings are not available too. This depends on the activity in that specific offering. All the near term derivatives are available but most long term ones are not.
I'll add to this later.
What other brokerages have you checked out? Any specific reason for using ICICI?
I'd suggest you check with your friends/family who have different brokers and check their websites/features personally.
