ICS Android 4.0 expands to 7.1 percent of total Android user base
Google has updated it's Android Distribution figures on it's website, and according to them the userbase of the latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 has a total of 7.1 percent, up from 2.9 percent back in April of this year and 1 percent as it was in January of this year.
The substantial growth of ICS has been attributed to the launch of new 4.0 devices such as the HTC ONE series and the Samsung Galaxy S 3 among others. And as more and more ICS devices are on it's way, and older phones being updated to ICS, this figure will surely grow even more in the upcoming months.

Even with the growth, it is still very finite in comparison to the older Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which still holds a massive chunk of the Android userbase, currently sitting at 65 percent. Not even that, even the even older Froyo 2.2 holds a 19.1 percent of the android userbase currently.

In some cases, the Original equipment creators are to be blamed for not launching new phones in the market with 4.0 ICS after it was released, and not even updating older phones to it. In other phones, the Hardware is being blamed for the unavailability on certain devices. So, even though there are new devices being launched and older devices being upgraded, this massive chuck of Gingerbread users isn't going to go away anyday soon.
