Hey guys
I just ripped my friends IDE cable of his HDD. I mean the wire came out and the plug was stuck in the hdd socket . However the other end of it is fine.
Can I use it to connect a single HDD or will it cause problems?

LOL u want to risk the drive for a 40 bucks cable? :bleh: If the cable is shorted then your drive can go kaput.

gosh, its not my drive anyway. although i will take ur suggestion and buy a new one for him

thank you anyway

I would suggest you buy a new cable too.... not worth the risk of having a short ciruit from the open cable.

Two of my IDE drives met with the same end......Buy a new cable.....I was too lazy to do that....Lemme tell u, sometimes I used to have problems getting my hard disk detected....

One more Question
His engineer had connected his hdd and cd-rom on the same ide cable (i.e. both on primary channel)
Is this method of connecting wrong?

not wrong per se, but if you try to acess both together, it will be slower. on the other hand , acess would be slightly faster otherwise , esp if its a UDMA 3 or higher capable drive, cus the drive was running on an 80 conductor cable , not 40. recommended-> leave HDD on end connector of primary channel cable , connect optical drive on 2ndary cable(if possible, get 80 conductor cable for that too... wont hurt :D )
