In A LOT of Trouble !

Looks like i'm in a lot of trouble with my internet bill for this month !

Here's the lowdown - I was lookin for a net connection roughly 3 months
back, wanted an Airtel unlimited plan. However the sales guy convinced me
to go for the limited plan, saying they were offering a 3 month promotional
period during which downloads were unlimited.

I had got the plan during the middle of September, and being the nut that I
am - i assumed the promotional period would expire after 90 days (3 months)
i.e. in the middle of December. Rang up Airtel yesterday to get my plan
transferred to the completely unlimited plan since the middle of Dec is
approaching. And I find out they have already started billing me from the
starting of this month !! As of now i've done 8 gigs of downloads and looks
like i'll have to pay for all that usage :ashamed:

Rang up Airtel customer care, and they claimed these terms are clearly
mentioned by the sales officer etc. I said I never got wind of any of this.
The customer rep said he dealt mainly in technical issues and I should contact
the Billing Department saying the sales officer never told me this. Yesterday
it was kinda late, so nobody was picking up the line at the Billing dept, and
today i'm way out of town as well to make a call to them.

Now paying 9K for the data usage is a lot of money, not to mention my folks
will slaughter me as well. Any suggestions guys??
 
if by any chance u were shown the plans on a written leaflet...and it had the condition written in small print...then u cant blame them...
 
hey too bad eddy.. feel sorry for ya.. i know how cruel n mean those b@stards are.. anyways, most of the time when u put up a fight with them, they'll negotiate the bill amount and ask u to pay something like 2.5~3k and shift u over to unltd plan..

FIGHT and tell them where they cud go and say u'll switch to other ISP ;) bluff.. :D more often than not, it works :D

and good luck convincing ur parents.. lol..
 
i got a bill of 45 k for just 15 days, total was about(1.4k), blasted them left right & center, my 3 months was not yet up ;) that saved me. in your case also the 3 months are technically not yet up, from date of installation.

check your date of installation, that would come in handy.

just make sure all your conversations start with september end, say the marketing people messed up, they assured you 3 months of unlimited d/l from the installation date.

p.s - dont worry you are safe :)
go visit the airtel showroom personally and sort out the mess.

But you were still within the 3 months, and I'm not according to "airtel terms".

Yep I know the date of installation very well and thats what I argued with

customer care about initially - that they're givin me only 2.5 months !

Unfortunately in their "billing terms", they call 1 month as in start of the

month to end of the month regardless of the day you sign up. So even if you

sign up on the 29th day of the month, after the 30th your 1 "month" is over :p.

Silly but thats how it works, and thats where i goofed up :(

There's no "physical" representation for this plan. It neither exists on their

website, neither did the sales guy show the plan to me. In all practicality,

word-of-mouth is the only way this plan exists. The sales guy lied to me and

said since it was a new plan he did not have any "pamphlets" for it as yet. So

neither was I shown any of this "fine print", had a look at all my documents as

well and found no trace of anything relating to it. This is clear lack of

information on their part, and i'm definately gonna catch them.

My only consolation now is that I found the moron's number, will ring him up

and ask him what the hell he's gotten me into :mad:
 
I know how you feel, the 1st time i saw my bill, i got a heart attack :crutch:

remember, this is a common problem, & they have ratified their bill's, nothing new. so just be confident in dealing with them, any slack you show & they will milk you for whole 9k :no:

@Sandy : downloaded roughly 8 gigs , @ Rs. 1.20/MB , that works to ~ 9.6K. Of course, 1 gig is free .. so 8.4K, still doesnt make a difference !

Just tell em you are inside the 3 months from the Installation Date.

2nd of all, Just be stubborn, I got my Hathway bill from 11.9k to 5.5k (for 4 months)

Im sure you can do as much to pay only the monthly thing or atleast that much.
 
Thank God i warned him that he is in trouble or else he would hve downloaded another 3gigs before 13th. Also eddy the 1Gig free limit according to the plan has been used up in from november 16th to november 30th, so whatever you have downloaded from december 1st is taken into account.
 
LEt us know how it goes....Try negotiatinmg for a 2-2.5K or sumthing, and tell that that if they do so, you'll switch to the unlim. plan (Which I assume you'd be planning to do)

DO let us know how it goes....
 
The SAME thing happened with me! i was on 128 kbps limited plan about 2 years ago, on Touchtel.

Used to download over 25 gigs a month, on a plan that only allowed 200mb of free download the rest is charged per mb.

Got a 30k bill the next month, we had to fight a LOT! Mom had to argue like anything to send them back (over 4 occasion they came to our home for the payment) and it was hell, mom was sooo angry at me, since she said there was no way she was gonna pay 30k.
It continued, mom kept saying that we'll be making the payment next month, and again next month, and again, then soon after Airtel bought Touchtel and introduced the unlm plans which we quietly changed the plan to, and now they seem to have forgotten about it. :p
 
Well in an odd situation now. I rang up billing dept twice - one female says my account is unlimited till the 12th, other male says no my account is being charged. Now looks like they themselves are confused.

The male rep brilliantly suggested that I wait till the end of the month for my bill to see if i'm being charged :bleh: . Yeah right!
