As the thread title suggest in how many ways can a cricket match end.

A Test Match

An ODI

and A T20.

I am sure quite a few of you will get it wrong.

AFAIK these are possible outcomes

1)A team wins either by scoring the required runs or bowling out the opposition.

2)Match is tie, if both team scores even runs.

3)Match is drawn or canceled because of rain or some other reasons.

4)A team wins the match through duckworth lewis system in case of rain or some other problems.

so in all 4 ways

well.. logically it will either end in a win for one team(and hence a loss for the other) or a draw. There is no other possible outcome. Now how they reach the win or draw could probably have infinite ways.. ;)

Probability at its best! :>

A better question wd have been :

How many ways are there to get a batsman out.

Ans: Over 100, commonly known ones are what we get to hear/see/read abt.

Oh and Reply #1 forgot one another way :

One of my friends was asked this in interviews, when he mentioned his hobbies include Cricket :bleh:

Well... TBH even i dont know for sure but this is my best guess...

Test matches:Win/Lose/Tie/Draw/Abandoned so 5(Draw will include Rain,Bad Light and other similar factors which makes the empire announce the end of the match).

ODI: Win/Lose/Tie/Abandoned. There are no draw's in an ODI IIRC.

T20: Win/Lose/Abandoned. Technically you cant have a tie in a T20. If both teams scores are equal at the end of the match you have a bowl out and that decides the result. So no tie technically.

Thats all i believe. What made me comeup with the question was the quiz competetion which was coming on TV few hours ago. Asking the viewers to predict and SMS the final result of the match :P

A match is also awarded to the visiting team if it has to be stopped because of crowd trouble. Example - the semi finals of 1996 World Cup. That brings a lot of sad memories though :(
