I hope they release a JB for people like me who wish to stay on iOS 5 but something tells me that the chances are bleak.

I am too scared to loose the unlock in process of upgrading.

For Users Who Rely On Unlock:

For those of you who rely on Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM unlock must preserve the old baseband using “Custom IPSW” option found in Redsn0w.

I have an iPad 2 with 5.01 & I dont see any point in Jailbreaking the device. Just keep a budget of Rs. 1000 & you will be surprised with the amount of apps that you can buy with it if you are willing to wait out until the sales/promotions are out.

Heck even my iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS are using all paid apps.
 
One of my friends has a got a iphone 4 with OS version 5.0 which he has not been able to unlock. Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to get this thing done?
 
I've spent $20 on apps and $30 on magazine subscriptions on my iPad 1.. not JB'ing it immediately.. want to feel a legal user for some time :P

When I bought the phone, the previous owner had already flashed iOS 5 preserving the baseband. I am new to iPhone and do not understand this restoring and upgrading of iOS. Because of the baseband the phone is software unlockable. I fear that i may screw up something and accidently upgrade the baseband rending the phone part useless for me.

Guys, Jailbreaking doesn't mean becoming a pirate!! Its primary purpose is to open up a new world of possibilities and NOT to give you access to cracked stuff!!

Check the baseband of the phone from settings/general/about/modem firmware. If its 1.59.00 then only it can be software unlocked if its higher than that then he has to use gevey.

I've jb my ipad, and mistakenly deleted the bigboss source. Now i need this source in order to install sbsettings, but whenever I click on add source and then type its url - http://apt.bigboss.us.com/repofiles/cydia/ , it gives me an error

"Did not find repository

The indicated repository could not be found. This could be because you are trying to add a legacy installer repository(these are not supported)"

Now What do i Do? :\

Yourtube 2 works but only through iFile. There is a version of Backgrounder that works too but its not on the repositories. Need to setup the Backgrounder+Multifl0w combo to save on the battery life which has certainly gone down with ios 5.

Good it is solved. But here is the solution for someone who are looking for same :

Go to Cydia Home Screen, scroll below, find Manage Sources. From there one can add legacy installer repos.

Get MxTube. It is iOS 5 supported. I will re-edit that list.

I thought backgrounder drains battery life. If not, can u explain how it is used to save battery ? Thank u :D

I configure Backgrounder to NOT natively background apps...when I close something it gets killed. This means when I double press the home button, I dont get the app switcher pane at the bottom. It also means I can background apps and let them be actually active for the time I want them to...for eg Nike+ when I am running. All of this translated to zero battery loss overnight on 4.3.3. Lets see what happens on ios 5.

The only issue I am facing now is that I cant use the swipe down gesture to replicate the home button...the gesture is locked to the notification centre. Do you know a workaround?

I dont like that app...have no problem with the way yourtube 2 works for now. yourtube 3 was working well but gremlin2 is not supported on ios 5. lets hope it happens soon.
 
Aye that trick I know, I thought there would be something new. Like keeping apps in background & saving battery ;)

No idea about swipe down, may be permanent locked to NC. but you can try other gestures with Activator.

Gremlin supports will be coming soon.
