The Home button on my wife's iPhone 4 seems to have become hard. We need to press hard for it to register the click.
I have seen people complain about home button before but need to know whether this is repairable and if yes then where can i get it done in Mumbai / Pune ?
Someone reliable in repairing an iPhone and does not do a shoddy work.

It can be fixed. I can't tell you which place in Mumbai till Tuesday though since dad is not home till then and he had got it done there

Oh sure. As of now it is not completely gone and still works but need to press the button hard. Soft pressing hardly registers anything which works well on my 4S.
Btw also let me know how good the work was done and how much did they charge ?

As a workaround, you could try this.

I used it on an old iphone that developed the same issue.

As of now it is not really a big issue since I can use the power button to wake up the phone and then slide to unlock. Now since the phone is jailbroken and I have zephyr installed the home button is almost never used at all.
But just in case sometimes the phone might go into respring loops or just die and then in order to fix this I need to start it using power and home button and that might be cumbersome.

AFAIK, 9Pea was a good place. Recommended by faheem.
can you tell me in more detail about it ?
Seems like a shop in ghatkoper.
But then do they fix the home button then and there. I cannot really submit the phone and then come later.
Also how much am I expecting to pay ?

@FaH33m others

Ok so 2 people have mentioned the same place so guess it will be good. Any other options in western line ? If not then I will go till ghatkopar.
Also yes I will call them tomorrow and see.

Yeah 9Pea is pretty reliable. Change of Home button shouldn't cost more than 800-1000 bucks. I am not sure if he can fix it then and there or will ask you to visit after some time .

Thanks for confirming. Would call them tomorrow and ask about price and how much time it will take to repair. I am ok with waiting couple of hours but going back till Borivali and coming next day or day after is not really feasible.
Let's see how it goes. Will update here.

Have the same issue on my Ipad 2. Looks like it is a common issue across Apple products because my cousin's Ipad also has the same problem. I've read somewhere that it happens due to dust building up and jamming the home button. Is this true?

9Pea remains closed on Monday. You can try on Tuesday.

Oh thanks for the headsup. I was gonna call them today but i will call now tomorrow. I will be in Mumbai from this thursday to sunday so hopefully i can get it sorted.

I don't know but yes home button going bad is common but occurs only after prolonged use. That's the reason one should install Zephyr tweak if you can jailbreak your device. It is a real savior of the home button. I use home button on my iPhone only wake it up and then never use it when i am actually using the device.

Yes I guess this is common as a apple product gets older. My iphone 4 has a similar problem, it does register the click but after a couple of click later. My power button is also acting funky.

long back when i had the same problem and searching thru the web give i found the solution.
its like pushing with a metal clip from inwards the charging port facing upwards(towards the front)
try google and you may find some thing related to it.

Fixing the iPhone home button is involved work. The replacement flex cable costs only 100-200 Rs, but the effort involved is more. The phone needs to be opened completely and display has to be removed. Then only you can access the flex cable. The charges can vary (500-1500) depending on how cleanly a person does the works. iPhone has 5-6 different types of screws and each screw has a particular position. A mechanic can either replace the screws at correct positions or he may swap them or not put some of them at all. He may open the pentalobe screws by a normal star head screw driver resulting in marks on screws and while trying to pry open the display he may leave some marks on the outer rim of chassis. So it all depends on the person who is fixing the phone. Watch some you tube videos to get more idea.
