^^ I don't think the novelty wud die off. In fact, the more u use it , the more u get dependent on it.

Ok accepted but then you need a really good fast (and reliable) connection for seamless functioning of SIRI, right ?

EDGE won't really do any justice i feel.

It's funny but when using us English , response times take 10-15 secs on wifi also but when using British English, it's pretty fast. Using edge on airtel, it takes 5-15 secs to respond for reminders, notes, calls. For queries from wolfram alpha, takes 10-15 secs on wifi itself.

Update..battery life is way much better after two full discharge cycles. Much much better than my experience with s2. And I have net on 24/7. :)

Wait, you guys mean that we need internet for SIRI to work? How much data transfer does it use?

Yes, no internet no SIRI and about data usage, although i read on some article that it uses very 'miniscule' amount of data per query, i am not sure how true is that. But whatever, if you play around more with SIRI, more data will be used.

^Not being able to use SIRI without internet on phone. Never knew that. With bad network plans in India giving sad speeds time to time, using SIRI is not that fun.

^Dude you certainly cannot expect the iPhone to have the entire Wikipedia stored in its memory! :P

I am not sure of this but I suppose not all commands require internet for SIRI to work and give responses. For instance, keeping a reminder doesn't need one or for doing some basic math which SIRI does through the inbuilt WolframAlpha answer engine.

I too feel that SIRI maybe a novelty for us Indians and can turn out to be quite embarrassing is used in front of a crowd with all that English accent. :P

Besides, when someone buys a smartphone like the iP 4S or the SGS 2, it is expected that the user adopts a 3G connection along with it. Not using 3G with a device like that is more like driving a supercar on roads with potholes!

I have a SGS 2 without 3G. EDGE is good enough for me to browse and post on forums :P

I know few friends who have Iphone and SGS 1/2 who don't even have GPRS :P

SIRI needs internet connection to decode your voice questions, so it needs to contact apple servers even for making a local reminder.

Install Fully Ported/Working Siri on iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4G

This was the part that had me going

We would like to address that H1Siri port on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4G is considered to be an illegal way of getting Siri on your device. By using H1Siri on your device you’re sending all your personal information including e-mails, messages, contacts, calendars, address book and more to a proxy server which is privately owned by CD-Team. They can easily change and amend the original commands and can do miss-use with any of your personal information, so your security is at high risk. If you still want to use H1Siri on your device then please use it at your own risk. We’re not responsible for any damage, bricking, or privacy issues.

I am using Siri on Airtel GPRS . Not much of an issue thought takes 5 to 10 secs to respond depending on the speed . On wifi its instant.
