Budget 71-90K Is 3070 Overkill for 1080p Gaming ?

Sorry, just rechecked and if I put AMD chill of, then it's at 150 plus FPS....on a recent AAA game. What more do you need!!

Vega 56 is ahead of 1060, true. How much did you buy it for?

and, yes, in my experience too, AMD drivers (for at least 5700xt) have improved a lot. I remember buying it new in Dec 2019, and I could get only 150 FPS in CSGO. Now, its 450 on same settings, haha. Even new games such as Cyberpunk run flawless. Actually, all DX12 games run much better on 5700XT than DX11 games due to the infamous CPU overhead with DX11 implementation on AMD.

Actually Vega 56 is somewhere between a 1070 and a 1080, and the performance difference between 1060 to 1070 is quite a bit. I bought it for around 16.5k

If you have a 144hz + display, it’s on the limits of reaching overkill. Cause it’ll run a lot of AAA games near that fps. It’s a decent future proof solution in that case as it’ll last a long time , till AAA games 5 years from now can comfortably run at 1080p 60fps even then!

ofc only buy it if you have money to burn

Unless you're getting a 3070 Founder's Edition at 44.5K INR from RP Tech, there's no reason to spend on a 3070 at least for a 1080P display.

1440P is the sweet spot.

Don't even think of spending even more than 45K INR on a 3070. I'm frequently seeing people shelling out almost a whopping 60-65K INR for 3070 TUF/STRIX variants, which is nothing but pure wastage of money.

I was in the same boat since I am not gonna be buying a 2k or 4k monitor anytime soon and went with a used 2060 in the end. It will easily handle 1080p until the next gen of gpu come out and then maybe i'll be willing to move to a higher resolution.

Even RTX 2060 is overkill for 1080p.

Guys, do you have any evidence back up your claims? Please look at graphs shared the 1080Ti can barely maintain 60 fps in some of the AAA titles from last year.

I get 36fps without DLSS on a 3070 at 1080p
On cyberpunk
CP2077 depends completely on what settings you use. If you enable psycho RT settings then fps tanks like anything as the 3070 runs out of FB memory. This doesn't happen on a 3090. Even 3080 hits vram limits in Godfall.

So a 2080 ti which has the same performance as a 3070 would perform far better thanks to 11gb's of vram??!!
It does perform slightly better in titles which really need the vram, such as cyberpunk with rt and wolfenstein. This will affect only on 1440p and 4k tho, so maybe not that big of an issue. See below video at 2:01 onwards

Depends on the situation. 2080 ti will be faster than 3070 in GPU memory limited situations. However 3070 will be faster in majority of scenarios where FP performance is the constraint as it has way higher number of FP cores.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an unoptimised junk of a game.

You shouldn't take that game's performance as a benchmark of what your RTX 3070 can do.
This is OT, but please dont call CP 2077 junk, it is a beautiful looking game even at low/medium settings. Some of the AAA games from late 2020 arent in the list, those averages are high based on old games, doesnt paint the right picture, look at the games want to play, what refresh rate and look at benchmarks with 1% and 0.1% lows, I also drive 2 monitors, need 144Hz 1080p max setting, doubt the 3080 would cut it till next year.

Like I said get the most GPU you can for your budget, and it will last that bit extra.
