Is the net safe anymore?

Anymore? When was the last time it was safe? For any person at home, he has to have good AV, good firewall, and FF/Opera for him to browse safely on net. Also, following simple logic like not clicking on the "You are the 100th visitor and hence won the price!" etc ads, and not installing anything that pushes it on you, should help you sail smoothly.
 
I really tried linux, but some thing or the other kept me pulling back to windows. Last time, when i was making a 128mb RAM system work, i installed puppy linux, but no way i could manage divx movies to run smoothly on that. On same machine, i installed stripped xp, chosen the bare necessary services, increased page file and decreased video hardware acceleration a bit, and I could play 95% of the movies on the age old PIII machine.

So, good that win7 is turning up good, and better that xp has got extended lifeline.
