Darn these Sony standards.... friggin idiots..

Ever since i got my rig, i feel i got a rigged Dvd writer with it.

Got the system in '06 and has been my unfaithful companion since then.

The piece of crap started acting up within 5-6 months of purchase with the initial symptoms of a de funct disc tray.

Had to punch the darn thing lightly on its head so as to get the tray out.

Sent it for servicing but u know how this problem raises its stubborn head time and again.

Offlate the stupid writer been refusing to recognise the DVD in the tray itself.

The writer shows up in the explorer as normally it would, but the moment u insert the blank dvd in, it simply takes its sweet time to let go off the system.. during which all my operations halt, system acts as its hung up, unless i take the disc out.. and i am left frustrated.

I got tons of data now on my paltry hard drive and unless i write the stuff i wd be reduced to only surfing on the internet and we all know how frustrating it is to behaving like that.

Any solutions to this problem of mine ??

i been writing on an avg abt 2-3 dvds a month. Not that heavy burning IMHO..
 
What model of the Sony DVD burner is it???

On a lighter note, a Samsung SH203D retails for as low as 1100 bucks; ;)
 
even i have probs with sony dvd writer... I wrote a few dvds few months back.. every thing was fine den... but now wen i try reading those discs it shows blank.. however it reads in another dvd drive... any reasons for its cause?? how to correct it?? my drive is hardly 5 months old..
 
try flashing it with a custom bios or something ......when all fails get the samsung sw sata model......its turned out to be the one of the best currently.....last price check with my dealer in andheri.....rs.1125
 
well my dvd writer sony DRU800 no longer reads dvd or cd that have data:@ ,but its able to play dvd movies,i tried using a philips dvd lens cleaner and it didnt help a bit.:( so any idea whats the problem.

But i had used the stupid drive abt a month back. Was Working properly till then.
 
As greenie mentioned, mine seems to be liteon 165p6s

and the link which u supplied, doesnt mentioned my dvd writer model number

And more importantly, will it do any good to a faulty sensor ..? that seems to be the most important thing here.
 
trust me Sony DVD Writers suck :@... You can find my thread which has problem like this.. Many guys suggested to throw that crap and get good one ;)

Stop rubbing salt into my wounds and pls tell me what to do here...

i also know that sony is not trustworthy anymore, but i wd rather try to concentrate on the problem i got on my hands.

Was reading bits and pieces on cdfreaks.. abt the crossflashing with the liteon firmware, cudnt really get to any conclusive verdict, as to how the performance shot up after the flashing..

Anybody with more knowledge on this .. ? Please do put in some valuable comments...
