itunes is just bugging me like anything, i use iphone and it asks me to upgrade firmware version and all to work fine, pls suggest me a good alternative for itunes which is not so resource hungry and also does the job of uploading music and videos easily..

Check out Redchair Anapod, it will allow you to drag and drop from explorer and it recognizes the ipod and all the songs in it. I used to use this when I had an ipod it's awesome.

^^but it doesn't support iphone, only ipods....

You can disable the 'check for new versions' option through preferences
