TOKYO — KDDI Corp will launch a fiber-optic communications service with upload and download speeds each of up to one gigabit per second on Oct 1. The new service will target people living in single-family homes and low-rise apartment buildings. The traffic speeds will be the fastest in eastern Japan, up drastically from the current 100 megabits per second.
With the service, KDDI aims to catch up with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp, which has a share of over 70% in the market for fiber-optic broadband services for single-family houses.
KDDI will charge 5,985 yen in basic monthly fees for Internet and telephone services, down 1,155 yen from the current price, if a user subscribes for two consecutive years.
KDDI will start offering its fiber-optic services, which are now available only in six prefectures in the Kanto region and nearby Yamanashi Prefecture, in four cities in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido.

IIRC the highest speed available in india in 8Mbps....it would look like dial up :bleh:

I don't mind India's "broad band speeds" because BSNL isn't stopping either, if not moving faster.

Yeah and Airtel is showing signs of stagnation.

Ripping customers with stupid plans, no night ULs, and almost useless/uneconomical UL plans seems to be their mantra.

Its very likely that in even in 10 years from now, Indian broadband scene won't see speeds like that.

8 years ago everyone was on 56k and the extremely luck few to have cable net (the Holy Grail back then) used to get a whooping 16kB/s.
Nowadays most people are happy with 2mbps connections with some sort of night unlimited scheme.

The situation isn't so bad and can only get better :).

I dont mind having 1mbps only . If i had 1gbps net god knows how many TB i would require.

Also who has the time to watch/play so many things :P

I've been desperately trying to get a 1Mbps Airtel connection at my new home and when I spoke to the local Airtel sales-guy, he told me that they can't do it despite heavy demand because the local corporation fellows haven't given them "road cutting" permission. He also told me that they did put up a distribution junction, only to have the corporation fellows come and rip it out.

The more things change, the more they remain the same in India. Sigh.

News like this is quite depressing....

For Indian Broadband users... :(

we have to wait till the bharti fibre optic line get finishes .. (under sea cable). India practically doesn't have capability to handle that much traffic.

imo 1gbps connection is insane lol more than the pc people will showoff their HDD towers lol

@the alchemist atleast atm airtel has few worthwhile plans i.e 888 plus UL plan which provides 256k during day and 512k during night

or 384k UL plan @999/-

hmmm. 1gbps. thats pushing the hard disks in terms of speed. but since there will be many hard disks after one gets that connection, he can just put them in RAID. :D

actually thinking we have only 2 mbps night UL packages is better off than sucj insane connections. if we would download everything that fast:

- there would be no fun in waiting for that download to finish. :P

- you would be stuck to the pc like a glue watching all the movies and playing all those games continuously, thus resulting in complete pc chair-ridden and zero social life. :)

Im migrating once i have a tower of 50 wd640's will be back in a month with all of them full..:ohyeah:

Thats life time worth of japnese porn/ hentai/ anime porn
