Got a reply from customer care. It reads:

"Under Rs. 149 plan, the time window from 02am - 05am is defined as free and is referred as Night LTE. During this time, the usage will not be debited from the daily FUP balance OR Data packs purchased by the customer."

Got the following SMS from Airtel a short while back.

DHAMAKA airtel offer! Rs343=Unlimited Calls + 28GB Data, 28 Days (Data : 0.5GB+0.5GB Night daily) Recharge before 31 Mar & get offer for 1year. T&C apply

This seems great, and can act as a backup connection considering QoS of Airtel is much better than Jio. But these sort of offers might lower their quality too . .

So is it safe to say that night free hours is still available under 149/- plan for non prime users?

So I will be getting the current speed and unlimited data in that time for 150 rupees it's a nice deal if it's true since I am able to schedule torrents and download around 15-30 GB in 3 hrs.

After 500MB, they'll charge some paise/KB.

Of all Vodafone has better 4G plans to compete with Jio.

Idea and Airtel needs to come up with a plan like Vodafone and also voice only plan like Jio with some data for ₹150.

As of now it looks like the non prime plan has night unlimited, but can't say if and when they'll change their minds. Keep in mind that the non prime plan gives only 1GB for the entire month, and once that's over, there's not 128kbps FUP. You will have to recharge with a top-up data pack.

Airtel...

300 mins a day is not bad at all. I mean how many people actually speak 5 hours or more in a day?

My guess is all these providers are actually gonna end up making more money with all these new plans, not less. They're all getting people used to consuming huge amounts of voice and data which they don't even really need. Just because it's 'free' and 'unlimited'.

Just talked with customer care. 2am to 5am free downloads wont be there for anyone after March, neither prime members nor 'non prime' members. And i think its logical. Company would want to catch as much fish in the prime net as possible for fixed monthly revenue. So they wont give any extra benefits to non prime members. Same can be seen from difference in data given to both the type of users. There is huge difference in data limits for normal users and prime users.

That's what i thought too. I've replied to the email they sent me asking if this would still be applicable from April.

I'm just gonna get the non-prime 149 and use it for calling. 30/60GB a month is too much for me for mobile use and too little for general use. I'll just happily get back to my home broadband and happily save money on my vodafone postpaid by using jio calling instead.

i m now worried about qos of Airtel and Vodafone after they launched similar plan. For ppl like me who has wifi @ home does not required more then 300-500 mb per day.

As far as I know, AVoId are not providing the above plans to all customers whereas Jio has opened the door for everyone. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Jio chap is with me

1. Night data free unlimited @ 2- 5 AM is removed from Prime
2. No limit on hotspot with JioFi device, but it seems it is for Jio phones only.
3. You need to recharge. There is no intimation about grace period info.

Please give me list of questions I need to ask. He will be visiting me on Monday/Tuesday.
