JVC Marshmallows. Mini review.

Okay folks, I'm going to keep this short simple and crisp. But before I start , certain points you should read :-

1) No, Gautam did not pay me 50 bucks to do this review.
2) No, I am not gay, the pink phones are for my girlfriend.
3) What I am going to say is my opinion, the constitution guarantees me that.

Got these from pristine note, a bout 3 days back. With about 4 different invoices and a warranty card and delivered in two days flat !

Accessories - Just an extra pair of foam tips nothing else, I think these are an open box deal or something. Nevertheless, after I heard them , I couldnt care less about any other thing.

Build Quality : Wow, you're actually reading ?! :p Okay here goes, pretty darn lightweight since they're made of plastic. Somebody mentioned the cable is short, I personally feel it is not so for those using it with a PMP or laptop. The cable is standard pvc types, not too fragile not too sturdy, just perfect for the half grand. However for those amazing vibrant colours , these are going to give your skullcandies a kick.

Sound : These small dudes are fantabulous ! I mean I plugged them in expecting something on the lines of a PL 11 or a less bassy/boomy version of the beloved EP 630. But I was blown away and I am not exagerating, okay maybe I am cause they were for 500 bucks :p, but on a serious (pristine) note :p , the bass on these is GOOD ! The bass goes deep, creates the vibration/thump I enjoy in my music. The first track I heard was an uplugged cover of Time of your life, sounded nice. The "A" and "E" strings from the guitar sounded brilliant . The vocals are decent, not really a stand out but neither a put down. Next track , Beautifull by Eminem, this song has an intro in the begining , with just male vocals, after about 20 seconds the music enters with a thud, that is when I started judging them and bass was really awesome. Not the boomy, lifeless , hollow kinds but the deep , punchy kinds. A little slow I think but then I dont expect half as much for something at that price. The highs are not laid back , if you enjoy only and only highs , rather save up for the Pl 30 , but if you want clear/non shrill highs with good bass quantity, these are your thing. I PERSONALLY think the bass was more than what was on my RE 2 , ofcourse the detailing is not close but then if you hear the JVCs alone, it is hard to find one sect/layer/strata of the song which they produce badly. My favourite part was the bass ,but I can not complain that the high/mids/vocals are not upto the mark. All in all , I am going to buy an IEM for about 8k very soon, but tommorow I am going to be paying up for my pair of the Marshmallows to tag them along when I have to stuff them in my pocket while travelling in the metro/or when Im scared of losing my stuff.

Recommended Over :-
1) PL 11/21
2) PL 30
3) Ep 630
4) Meelectronics M9
Ofcourse if you absolutely need a mic then look elsewhere.

Last but not the least , a big thank you to Pristine Note (Gautam) for bringing this outstanding product within the reach of this aweosme community.

Peace.

Arrey guys relax. No offence taken, and I'm sure none was implied either.
Everybody knows what to logically deduce out of a review based on the reviewer's taste, so lets end it at that :)
Change the topic before somebdoy says something else :p

Nice review mate!Fortunately I have some good iems with me,wish I could write like you people. If I manage to squeeze some time next weekend, will try to post a noob`s comparison between IE7,8 and SM3.

@ Faheem- Dude as of now I dont have the marshmallows, gave it to her. Doing it on her pair makes no sense, she couldnt tell the difference between stock phones and the Klipsch :p For the pair I am getting, I dont know actually. I have the clumsiest hands ever , but I wtill will give it a shot and post impressions incase there is noticeable difference.

Re dragon - Remember one thing boss, only one thing is as tough as rocket science, that is , rocket science :p Just write what you feel.

Few thing I would like to share. I very recently got a chance to audition Ultimate Ears 18 Pro in HK. The owner asked me how did I like them? I just smiled at him, said they are good. How good?, He went on to ask me, knowing that I have been auditioning his products for almost last 10 years. I didnt reply to that one. Here is why.... it makes sense in a 100+ $ earphone, to split hair about how good the treble sound, did it actually have controlled bass and did it over hang on the mids... or did the mid sound like the singer? All that doesn't come in a split second, you have to go over and over listening to the same song. Burn them, accustom yourself to the new sound signature. Conjure your thoughts and then finally hope like hell, people accept what you have written. Such is the life of a reviewer. He listens to the sound but doesn't get to hear the music! I knew what he wanted to hear, but I didn't answer.

Anyways, when the vender didnt get to hear, what he wanted to listen. He pulled out a 10 driver IEM told me there are only handful of them around the world ...and naturally asked my opinion on them. I asked them how much they are likely to retail? He said 2,700 $. I smirked back and pointed at the old flagship Altec Lansing floorstandars in the corner and said, I rather buy them. We both broke into peal of laughter!

In another meeting (just recently), I just auditioned a 7000$ earphones. I had to clean my ear canals with olive oil before I would don them :). My opinion about them were, they are snob-phones rather than ear-phones. (I have purposefully left out names of these models.). I didnt like them for the price of 100$!

The point here I am trying to make is. Fine if you want to be super critical about earphones, go ahead and split hairs. However, please do not forget to enjoy the sound and importantly music. It is perfectly fine to make an impression in one word : good/bad.... etc. A good presentation and detailing is all that you must seek out. There is no need to get hyper about them, and avoid posting your impressions about them. You can be different and your judgment can differ. You can score them, give marks. Write a review and be completely wrong about them! Please share your thoughts, that is all that is needed here. For a sub 800 INR earphones (at least), all that should suffice- Did you enjoy them? And if yes how much!
Oh! BTW in spite of my thoughts of those 7000$ earphones, they have been selling (in small quantity) in Japan and now in Singapore.... (talk about recession). Let us not forget why did we all purchase the earphone for.

Watch out for X-Mas and New Year we have some nice products on the offer!

^^ You are right. In the last couple of days I have been trying to add more impressions about the Brainwavz M3s but after a short time I get completely lost in the music and I forget to note down my impressions. :P

@pristinenote

Very well said. I have read reviews and bought many of them but none of them are good for me and earlier I was like looking for all sounds in song instead of enjoying the song. Now I changed my view and after that I am even enjoying this low end Marshmallow, I enjoy music like anything. And in this budget if one is enjoying music than yes they are worth buy.

I recently got the marshmallows from Pristine Note. :)

Now I have both PL11 and Marshmallows. I used both of them to listen to LinkinPark A thousand Suns. I felt that JVC were sounding better. my friend took them and was trying to listen to Telugu songs. He felt that the bass is better in PL11. I feel that bass is better in JVC while listening to LP.

But I like the JVC much better, Now I can put them on and sleep while listening to music. PL11 were little uncomfortable in that regard. I mean when you wear them and put your ear against the pillow and sleep.

PS: by now you should understand that I am not an audiophile so but just bought these because when I saw the photo I felt that they would be comfortable to wear. inside a helmet and while sleeping/lying. :-)

Got mine today afternoon. I'm really satisfied with the product. I always wanted bass kicks more than any other channel, and it fulfills my need. Overall I'm really satisfied with this. Can't comment on comparisons as technically this is my first IEM :)

I have had 2 TE guys walk up to our store couple of days back. They wanted to try the marshmallows, however they were not able to conceive any difference in SQ when they were playing songs from their Nokia phones. When they tried the sound with the Fuze we had in store for demo, they were extremely happy. If you want to really hear the difference of the SQ, please try them with a decent Media Player.

Hi,

received the product in less than 24 hrs. Very happy with the service from pristine note but disappointed with the IEM. After reading the user opinionsabout here in TE i was expecting a IEM with a decent amount of Bass but there is absolutely no bass from this. To double check i tried the IEM in my android phone and on friends's Iphone and ipod but there is no bass at all and the volume is low. Infact i compared it with my friends Pansonic budget Iem and they were souding bassy compared to jvc.

Not sure if i got a defective piece or it's designed that way.
