Linux KDE 4.x discussion thread

Yup I have it on my Karmic 9.10 alpha VM with KDE 4.3 and also my actual desktop with Jaunty 9.04 with KDE 4.2... looks better than the dark/black oxygen plasma theme, but its still a little too whitish, they can make it a little mild/faint then it will be perfect....maybe its too white because i have a penguin-glacier-ice wallpaper :D

KDE 4.2 screenshot with Air theme taken from KDE 4.3 SVN trunk:

I like how the clock, cpu, network applets look cleaner and no longer all black...

My KDE keeps turning in "Black screen" with just mouse coming, no other elements. it comes back to normal when I restart kdm manually from terminal.

This is happens at random and X server surely does not crash. Its just screen elements can' be seen anymore. I only have a mouse.

KDM.log - this is only log file which does have some errors, not sure if they are related in any way to this problems or not.

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

From what I recall reading posts online, this could be a driver problem (mismatch with kernel) or misconfigured xorg.conf.

Did you recently change/update anything? Try rebuilding binary drivers assuming thats what you're using...

Or try starting X without any xorg.conf (rename it away)...

edit: check your .xinitrc either in /etc or your home and make sure only "startkde" is there with all other stuff (setxkbmap etc) commented out...

Nopes, No changes made. I just Update my system regularly to latest. I did check ~.xinitrc but it has only "exec startkde" rest it commented.

I have the latest nvidia driver version 185.18.14
here my Xorg.conf

Kubuntu Netbook Edition update: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-devel/2009-July/003051.html

Kubuntu Netbook Edition for Alpha 3

Alpha 3 will be the first milestone that Kubuntu Netbook Edition has
participated in. We will need help testing this additional image this week.

One of the goals for Kubuntu Netbook Edition in this cycle is to provide a standard Kubuntu like experience, but scaled to work on a netbook sized system. We landed kubuntu-netbook-default-settings over the weekend, so we have all the pieces in place for this objective.

In addition to the usual ISO testing we need feedback on the settings tweaks we've done for the smaller form factor. If you have feedback on it, you can leave it here, come visit us on #kubuntu-netbook, or file bugs in Launchpad against the kubuntu-netbook-default-settings package.

As always, feedback on different hardware experiences is wanted at:

http://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Netbook/HardwareTesting

Scott K

Note: You don't have to have a netbook to test, you can install the kubuntu-netbook ISO on regular systems too, you'll likely think the fonts are way to small though.

Apparently KDE plasma-mid is planned only for 4.4 but Kubuntu are trying to patch a netbook version for 9.10 release with KDE 4.3 itself.

I'll be trying it out this weekend on my tablet PC...

there is still some jpeg issue wth kde-unstable (i have yet to update - again - though) where konquerer doesnt resize (oversizes) jpegs properly..

this libjpeg7 seems to have broken too many apps to list. anyways, It would be fixed soon as they just need recompile libs.expect everything to be fixed in 2-3weeks

I am fortunate that I don't use konquerer. dolphin rocks here!
