tried many custom roms with various android. as a thumb rule after learning from 2-3 years that only try from well known developer or group. Check XDA thanks meter.
Just try from CM, Paranoid Android, Slim, AOKP, Pacman etc. and also for those your device moderator is active enough to keep debugging and give stable ROM

The best rom for regular usage for s3 is the stock rom . I have used cm for s3 . No rom is bug free . Also note the video calling feature from dialler is not present in asop type roms . I have google nexus 7 with kit kat . I prefer the touch wiz of samsung to stock any day . Personal choice . Also all fancy gesture and smart stay will not work with cm or asop roms . Whats the point of having expensive phone and no features ? Cm and asop roms make the phones fast but no eye candy . I'm using s3 for more than a year.

I hate touchwiz. You have a valid point but that launcher is probably the worst in the market. Whatever Samsung does with the software is absolute crap.

Anyways, Gonna put this idea on hold for now. Cannot find a really good ROM as of now.

Flashed Neat rom AOSP last night.
  • First impression - fast. smooth.
  • Will take some time to test battery drain.
  • Swiftkey installation took a lot of time. No problem with other apps
  • I read reviews that camera supplied with this rom has video issues.
If you intend to flash this rom , you may prefer to
1) Install custom kernel (Boeffla Omni) for better working
2) Install camera fix 2.5

But before that
1) Read, read and read about flashing (if not familiar)
2) DO take nandroid backup
3) Should have latest recovery
4) If you plan to flash custom kernel and camera fix also. Put them along with rom and gapps zip. Can flash all at once in sequence ROM > Kernel > Gapps > Camera fix
5) If possible go for full clean install. eg a) Phiz recovery > wipe data > clean to install rom b) mounts > format /data
6) Before that take backup of files in phone storage.
