Landlord not returning security deposit 30k

Delhi has one month's rent as deposit. Mumbai has 10 AFAIK.

Some want 2 now.

This is common only in Bangalore, and something I find very unreasonable even though I've been here for some years. Most other cities usually have only 3-4 months deposit. But even in Bangalore, if you talk with the landlord he can reduce the 10 months deposit but usually in exchange for slightly higher rent.

Its curious there is so much variation in deposits around the country.

Is it down to the individual city's laws. Maybe its a function of how quickly the courts dispose off cases in case of disputes. A larger deposit might indicate a very clogged courts system whereas a smaller one might be the opposite.

It will feel unfair when you come from a system of 1-2 months to that of 10 months.
