Nobody has the YA15 in stock in Delhi apparently :(

You can try searching though. Even YA17 will be tough to get. Upgrading RAM is very simple just buy a 2GB stick and fit it in the empty slot. Check the timings though before you buy the RAM module.

BTW Delhiboy1000 and others, the thing didn't strike me until I saw a desi review of the YA15. And the fact that Ive received so many likes on my post about the YA.

U do realize that the laptop has an i3 380 Ultra low voltage processor right ? Its not the full voltage i3 that you find in mainstream size laptops . And there is a big difference between the two as far as performance goes.

I just wanna make it clear as I wouldn't want to be blamed later when someone finds that the YA does not really have the "i3" they were expecting :)
 
oh yes, i DO realize that there is a difference between the two i#. But even then , the CPU on the i3 is better than the one on the fusion.

But as I read more of the very few YA15 reviews, I find that the difference may not be too much.. !

So maybe that HP DM1Z aint that bad... I could end up saving 4-5k..!

The difference doesn't even count! Infact I ran the PCMark Vantage test on my laptop with it running HP's bloatware and Windows 7 Home Basic provided by HP. After tuning the system properly and with a fresh install of Windows 7, I am sure I could improve on the 2509 points notched by the HP DM1z. Infact some reviewers and users have managed to hit 2600~2700 points. In terms of real world performance and real world scenarios I see no difference between the Core i3 and the AMD e350. And to the other misinformed clot who mentioned in this thread that running 10 tabs in Google Chrome slows down the DM1z with an HD video thrown in should be thrashed! The Hp DM1z plays every sort of video in every possible format and every sort of aspect ratio(360p,480p.720p.1080p) with no lag with whatever service or software running in the background. I have played 3 x HD rips (720p and 1080p) simultaneously and got smooth playback. And finally the HP DM1z is not a netbook but an ultraportable. You won't call the Sony Vaio with Intel's ULV cpus a netbook irrespective of it having the same 11.6" forma factor, will you?
 
@sunny,is it possible to buy extended warranty for DM1z?Here in kolkata,HP service centres are pathetic,they know nothing about extended warranty for it.HP India`s website is of no help(it is basically useless).
 
I don't know about Calcutta but in Ahmedabad I was told to visit the service center to extend my warranty when I called them. You can talk to HP on the number they've provided on their website.

@babu.mohan.. bro, I've a Sony VAIO YB series laptop.. & believe me it handles all the 1080p videos (even high-bitrate Avatar & Transformers 2 at 15 GB each) effortlessly with browsing going in background.. Moreover, it has an amazing battery life.. Only regret is that it ships with Windows 7 Starter Edition which sucks.. AMD 6310 is more than enough to suit your needs.. It is available for 24k at Flipkart.. You can get additional 2 GB RAM stick for 1.2k & can upgrade to Home Premium if you want.. this is the best thing since porn :P

Update :- Here's the benchmark of this laptop.. I ran 3D mark on it the day it arrived..

 
Why did you get the Sony YB over the HP Dm1z? Let me tell you what you've missed out on:-

[1] A High capacity 6 cell 55 WHr battery in the HP DM1z over the 4 cell battery in the Vaio YB

[2] Home Basic 64 over Windows 7 Starter

[3] Better overall performance in all the benchmarks over the Vaio YB

[4] Upgrading the HP Dm1z is a pleasure and the easiest thing ever

[5] 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive over the 250 GB 5400 RPM hard drive in the Vaio YB

[6] Not to mention a cheaper and a more solid product compared to the Vaio YB
 
^^ sunny , your enthusiasm regarding this product notwithstanding ; there is a good case to buy the Sony as well..

The option of buying an extended warranty cover for another 2 years at a decent price & the overall notebook reliability ( 16% Notebook Failure rate over 3 yrs for the Sony v/s the 25% for the HP !)
 
Visited Croma on Sunday to buy a lightweight notebook as replacement for my daughter's Samsung N150.
Checked out the HP DM1Z, a Sony Vaio VPCYB25AG and a Lenovo all using the E350. I personally liked the Lenovo best but she liked the Vaio as most comfortable. The store only had the display piece in black and their stock was silver so we walked out empty handed.
The next day I placed an order for the same with Flipkart for about Rs 800/- less. Got it this morning. Rs 24190/-.
 
^^ sony centres sell it for 24.5k ( 2% stock discount ) . YB25 only comes in Black ! I am getting the same today ! One decision in life made ! heh heh

btw.. how bad is the win 7 starter?

What? WE cant even change wallpaper on windows 7 starter.:(. I m waiting for my YB green to arrive.
