Laptops Laptop coolers - a query

Hi,
I'm using my laptop for about 6-8 hours at a stretch and in the hot Delhi weather it gets quite warm.
I'm thinking of buying a laptop cooler. There are cheapo types available for 300-400 bucks with three fans for coolong and costlier ones like APC, Belkin, Iball, Logitech, CoolerMaster etc which are between 1000 -2000 bucks.
Anybody used the cheap ones? Are these effective?
Also, where in Nehru Place, New Delhi these coolers are available?
 
well, i use the cheapo three fan waala cooler. the reason i use it is that it kinda providers space for airflow, leaving the laptop cooler when in use for prolonged periods.

the laptop itself certainly feels less heated up, but i guess that has more to do with the elevation which allows the airflow than anything else.

i assume the better brands have better airflow and stuff and stuff, but since i have not used it, i cannot comment on them
 
The Belkin Laptop stand + cooler is the best among all, it can be used as a laptop stand too and a laptop sits really nicely on it. It has good airflow too. I came to this conclusion after checking most of the laptop coolers that were available at Lammy.

Hi, I'm also using my laptop for prolonged periods & feel the need for cooling pad/stand.
I've also heard, laptops should not be kept over laps as such because they can cause heat damage to the skin/body.

Please guide on some laptop cooling pads/devices with prices.

If you are planning on using laptop on bed/sofa CoolerMaster Notepal Infinite is the best as it has covered bottom and air intake from rear.

My laptop used to get very hot reaching 80 degrees (laptop on bed + Inspiron laptop with Nvdia overheating problem), now its around 50 degrees.

u got the one with 4 usb ports ? how much u paid
 
How Good/useful are these 250-300/- coolers?
Do they serve the purpose or compound issues?

Belkin isn't available in my City, only cheap ones/Chinese are all we get!

i have been using a cheapo with 3 fans for a quite time being now. it is serving my purpose. i use lappy for download purpose also. temp goes down even w/o fans duo to increased air flow passage.

working for me as well. thing is as long as there is airflow, you temps will go down. and that is wat these el cheapo ones do. increase airflow.
 
no need to use any cheap chinese coolers i have one that i bought for 300 rupees and it made only difference of 5 degrees to my laptop.

i got lower temperatures by opening my laptop on sunday and applied tuniq tx2 to the processor after cleaning the die and heatsink with alcohol. immediate drop in temperature by 6-7 degrees. after that, i downloaded a fan control program and have the fan running at 2nd highest speed (4000rpm, max in my laptop is 4600rpm) and temp dropped to 46.

so here is the exact table:

in the start: idle-55C, load-79C

after applying tuniq: idle: 49C, load-72C

after using fan control: idle: 46C, load-not tested yet.

if i increase the fan speed to max, idle temp drops to 45C.

okay if I use the cooler temp will drop to 41-42 but 46 is good enuf for me. try my advice first and see if the temps in your lappy drops. if not, go for the cooler.
 
Thanks Idea, my lappy works for ~8 hrs a day, continuous at times.
Sometimes when Im working/typing on it, I can feel the heat on my wrists which lie below the keyboard/on the sides of touchpad.
Also, if its kept on lap, after sometime heat becomes unbearable.

Now, I guess the cheapo cooling devices with fans would be throwing the heat downwards, again this won't be comfortable to keep on lap.
Thanks Bits, I'll try the cheap ones, but can the lappy + cooling pad be kept on lap?

Im a relative novice when it comes to computers, simpler the better for me!

...dude thats risky stuff!!!which laptop do you own???i tried to open and clean my laptop's fan and heatsink, thinking it must b as easy to disassemble as a desktop!, but the laptop inside is very complicated!!!!i went till below the keyboard; then got scared sh*t :ashamed: and tried to assemble it back.....had three screws in my hand after the final assembly!!!!:rofl:; when i powered it on the screen adn the touchpad were was not working...:no: ....it took me a lot of time to find a service manual of my notebook model and 5 straight hours of reverse disassembly and reassembly and detailed study of the same....:@ ...i was really angry with myself formessing up with a thing that was working perfectly till then.:@ , finally it worked and things got back to normal!!!it was insane man...i would really really not recommend opening u the laptop to anyone!!!!!
i use the laptop like almost 20 hours at a stretch....for working during the day and as a downlaod reig at night....ya it gets hot...i guess thats why its battery life is suffering...its npt giving me more than 15 mins backup now in its 2nd year.....heat causes the Li-Ion battery to fail early...
sorry for the boring long post:bleh: couldn't resist!!!:rofl:
