3 years is a pretty long time. I would suggest Deus Ex Machina to buy the Acer.

The things that pom99 mentioned, it did not happen because he used the laptop to do something more than use MS Office. The same things would have happened even if he had used it to edit Office files and surf internet only.
I mean he will have to turn on the laptop if he wants to surf the internet or watch a movie :P So the power button has to be pressed any way.

A lot of people have had problems with their DVD drives. My brother's Lenovo laptop's combo drive stopped working within the warranty period. When he took it to the service centre, it started to work again even before the service guys had laid a hand on it. But after some 3 months, it failed again. The warranty period was over by that time. Now a days the drive works some times and some times it does not.

The Acer Aspire 5738 has the best battery life and great keyboard and a great price too. Just take an extended warranty option just in case some part stops working after the warranty period is over.

Off Topic : @Deus Ex Machina I think you owned the Zenith Director Plus Ultra. What happened to it?
EDIT: It seems that the OP has already bought the laptop. I replied after reading the first page only. :ashamed:

Lenovo's was also an equally "great" price :). Keyboard was equally good. I did a quick search after reading previous posts, aabout Acer vs. Lenovo's build quality. And man, that response I got! Acer was thrashed like anything. Lenovo's G-series' reviews were universally good. Dunno if I made better choice, but at least I'm confident about it. With Acer I had serious doubts.

About my Zenith, you ask like you almost expect something horrible to have happened to it by now :p. It is working perfectly fine. DVD drive acts up once in while, but I haven't used it more than 3 times during last year. Laptop gets "quite" hot during long(2 hours) gaming sessions. Other than that, top-notch performance.

Yup, one more thing, hibernate doesnt work all the time in Windows 7. But I can live with that :)
