My general experience is that two sticks typically yield better compatibility, stability and overclock than 4 sticks. I don't mind going for 16 GB kits as long as I can hit 3200MHz with 4 sticks.

Reviews say that 2700x is not as finicky about RAM as the 1x00 series. Most RAM at least works even if they don't work at the overclocked frequencies. Need to see.

Many 8GB modules are single rank while 16GB modules are usually dual rank. So you will hit about the same speed on 4 X 8GB or 2 X 16GB on Ryzen. Best overclocking performance can be achieved with 2 Single rank RAM configuration which place less load on the memory controller, since you’re going for 32GB this is not an option for you.

I went to CTC today. Was quoted 18.75k for Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 WiFi and 43k for 2 x 16GB kit of GSkill 3600MHz CL17 RAM. Wanted to get the board today itself, but it was not in ready stock. So need to go next week again to pick it up. RAM, I think I will order from Prime ABGB

43k for ram??
Wouldnt you get far more performance if you got normal clock ram and put that money in processor/gpu :O

If you are not in a hurry, why not wait for intels rumoured Z390 and 8 core chip?

From what I have read, Ryzen's Infinity Fabric is tried to the RAM clock and hence these CPU's benefit well from RAM clock. In fact, if you look at various reviews of 2700X, you get the picture that CPU overclock is kind of pointless as you cannot go past its boost clock of 4.3 GHz anyway. You might as well leave it on default and let it manage the clock itself. On the other hand, RAM clock offers increasing returns in performance. Particularly games will see an improvement of 5-10%.

RAM is costly at the moment and expected to increase further in India. In fact, the guys way telling that all prices are expected to increase. So, only way I can save is by going for less RAM. i.e. 16G instead of 32G. That is still a point that I need to consider. The same GSkill ram is available for a bit lower with Prime and MD Computers.

As for CPU/GPU, I got a 2700X which is the best available right now in Zen+ Generation and I already have GTX1080 and there is nothing new on the GPU side if I ignore the 1080Ti.

What I was saying was if you're paying 10k extra over normal ram, for 10% extra performance, perhaps those 10k could get you 20% extra performance by buying you a better CPU. Anyway, you already have most stuff.

Go for 16gb ram. 32gb doesn't make sense at these prices. I create content and have a gazillion tabs on chromes and multiple apps on multiple monitors open. If you're on an NVME SSD (or even sata), on the 1% chance that it writes to page file, it'll be super fast read speeds anyway. Also windows 10 uses compressed memory if hardware supports it & most new hardware does, so that's saving on the ram usage too.

There are use cases where 16GB doesn't suffice. Recently I was compiling an Unreal Engine project which would freeze a 16GB machine due to lack of ram. Same thing worked just fine on 32 gigs. Many folks like me have things we do other than gaming on our primary PC.

I strongly suggest if you can afford it, get the CH7 board instead of Gigabyte. It makes memory tuning super easy.

I can afford the CH7, but I have been reading reports about poor memory compatibility and that compatibility is also breaking and getting fixed with every BIOS updates. It seems to be requiring completely manual tuning to even even go past 2133MHz with many RAM kits. It is more of a tinkerers board right now than a high end work horse. I do get the point that its BIOS offers way better control over tuning parameters, but it would be kind of absurd if the board forces you to use them out of the box.

Also, despite the premium and its positioning as a high end board, it feels surprisingly bare on value. Even with the 5k premium over the Gigabyte, the CH7 we get in India is the non WiFi version. Compared to how loaded my Asus Z68 Deluixe from 7 years ago is, Crosshair 7 doesn't feels like its in a tier above it. Not that Gigabyte Gaming 7 is any different compared older high end boards from Gigabyte, but I don't see why the CH7 deserves a price premium.[DOUBLEPOST=1526198397][/DOUBLEPOST]Also Guys, please make a recommendation on Liquid cooler (CLC) for it. My primary choices are currently Corsair H150i Pro and Thermaltake Floe Riing 360 Premium Edition both of which cost around 15k

Just to add, I am getting a Thermaltake Core X9 chassis.

That channel is amazing. Guy gets into so much detail.

Buy a dual 280mm over a triple 120mm. There will be less noise and they are cheaper. Performance is very similar. Corsair h115i or whatever the new one is called.

Also be aware that pretty much all other than deepcool and coolermaster are manufactured by Asetek so performance will be very similar.

Yes, I understand that all of them are Asetek re-brands.
Would a 280mm rad be enough for a future 10/12 core Zen+/Zen2.

I have also read that the H115i Pro/ H150i Pro sacrifice performance for silent operation.I am not too concerned about noise. I have a couple of 120x38mm deltas in the rig right now.

You can always put better fans. However personal experience is that a 280mm h115i is enough even for an overclocked 1950x threadripper that I use in office.

I got the Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 WiFi board today. The GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz 32 GB Kit is out of stock with the local distributor. So dropped the idea of 32 GB and getting the 16 GB Kit instead which will be here in a couple of days. Will upgrade a few months later.
