Just another voice adding to your confusion. :P

I am using the Samsung PN42B450 with a PS2 (component), Wii (component), PS3 (HDMI) and a laptop (HDMI). I have had no issues with it and it looks pretty good.

the S10 and G10 does indeed have good blacks, but not so great SD performance compared to samsung.
secondly its above is budget.he is also a heavy gamer.
the panasonic or for that matter the kuro doesn't even have a static contrast of more then 4000:1,let alone 40000:1,that also applies to lcds with LED backlight.
True, if you're talking about ANSI contrast, even the most high-end projectors don't ever exceed 600-700:1 ANSI contrast ratio. But that's not the point. The Panasonic plasmas and the Pioneer Kuros (which also use OEM panasonic panels) make amongst the best displays in the business in terms of black levels and overall colour accuracy. Trust me when I say that SD quality is more dependent on the DVD player or other source being used than on the TV outputing it. Most mainstream DVD players under ~10k do a terrible of upscaling standard definition footage. If you want good SD footage then invest in a better player. That'll make a MUCH BIGGER difference than the tellies in question here. Finally, gaming in 720p on a 42-incher is going to look like crap. I've tested enough SD plasmas and LCDs to know this. It's like gaming in 1024x768 on a 19/20-inch monitor. Full HD is simply the way to go regardless of whether you want to buy a plasma or LCD TV in the 40-inch and above screen size. So to summarise it as succinctly as possible:
Cable TV - 720p LCD (most cost effective)
X360 or PS3 gaming - 1080p LED LCD (great brightness and apparent contrast ratio)
DVD or Blu-ray movies - 1080p plasma would be my weapon of choice

ANSI is a more accepted, since who cares if a plasma or lcd gives the best blacks ,since even a cheap chinese make can achieve thay by reducing brightness or by backlight dimming.if we go by the manufactures way, then their is no way i am going to accept those claims of plasma/lcds as 100000:1,some LED lcd boast 1000000:1:no:.
in ANSI testing, lcd and plasma don't get much room to dim or brighten up the display, where they have to show their best whites and best blacks at the same time.about kuro nobody here questioned its black capabilities even in ANSI.
for gaming/blu ray yes FHD is definetly better.
as for SD,yes it still depends on the source at the same time it also depends on how good the tv can upscale.SD content may not be DVD we are taking about cable/dth.

^^lol.....the more ppl post...the more u will get confused !

It should be between the LG PQ70 vs Sammy B450 :P

Heard LG is giving HDMI DVD player free whereas sammy has also has the same.

So @ 42k , with free HDMI DVD player + 50 movie DVDs , who can beat the PQ 70 :P

well from my observations C10,x10 don't show great white compared to earlier PV8/80.nor do they have a great image processing.btw the pq70 and 42b450 i would pick the samsung.

well the LG lcd will have trouble displaying deep blacks more like grey color,so u get poor contrast, compared to the plasma which can show some realy good blacks.for SD content the samsung B450 will be better.

sammy and sony are out of question reasons being

Just get a Full HD TV i would suggest.

And imo if possible dont get the plasma, stick with the lcds.

Samsung -LA 40B530 or LA 40B550.

Sony - KLV 40S550A

Around 2 years ago Plasmas were much better than LCD's,, picture quality, viewing angle etc etc features.

Now LCD's are equally good as plasmas[almost no difference], so i suggested lcd because some components in plasma tv's are irreparable[Just google 'LCD or PLASMA' n read the latest article].

And im suggesting a Full HD just to be kinda future proof.

After all its just a few extra bucks.

Get any of the above three models[ depending on your budget] and trust me you wont be dissappointed.

Happy Buying..

The LCD panels have improved so much apart from going down in price, it makes sense to get LCD nowadays.
Btw, I visted Adeshwar, Bangalore and the LG 42" LED LCD TV was listed at 80k prior discount. I am assuming the 47" one should be priced considerable higher. I see some guys mentioning that the 47" LG is available for around 80k. Where is it listed at that price? Grey Market?

Actually...Budget is not kinda problem...
The reason I has getting a HD ready and not Full HD was because 80% of the time I would be using it for SD airtel DTH.... and a HD ready will give a better quality than a full HD:)

So considering my usuage.... HD ready suits be best...isn't it?

I was quoted 87k Rs price for the 47" LH LH90 @ Vijay sales , Pune with offers (50 movie DVD's + HDMI player) ... So without offers you can get it for 80k Rs... I am considering same deal ... :)

Viewing SD content on FHD or HD ready will only make a difference depending on the viewing distance.

You will see those so called pixellations WIth SD Cablewallah content only when you will be too close[I mean like 1 -2 feets distance] to the TV set.

With DTH the difference will be reduced further.

Dont worry just get the Full HD TV...

If you are not satisfied by my reason just go to the TV store and ask for a demo and check it out for urself.
Compare all three models that i told you and also one HDready model of your choice.

Tell us what you feel..

Thanks Holic and adder....Reps on the way

Now the main question....Considering my linited usuage of hd content on my TV (i use my PC for gaming and HD movies)....do u think I should spend 20k extra for a full HD LCD:)

^^

wouldn't you want to enjoy HD movies on big screen?? what if you begin to regret later on...

my suggestion: go full HD man

.........

btw guys i have booked LG 42" LH70 scarlet 2.0 for 63K

PS: I am getting this full HD LCD for gaming and movies only... and i don't watch TV
