yes. there is a small army canteen at that exact place where the photo was taken. and there are stickers of this group in that canteen. I think Tata no nos do that every year.

btw, if you guys are non vegetarians, you will have to try the meat ball soup on the road side in leh.:hungry:

Is nano really safe for such rides?
Yes. People go there on scooties if they have what it takes : BALLS.[DOUBLEPOST=1408929592][/DOUBLEPOST]Having chicken and meat on hills is dumb imo. I had eggs and veg stuff mostly. Non veg is over priced and stale.

I call it stupidity. its not like who has the bigger balls. on our trip, we met a guy who road his splendor with a flat tyre for 100km in the nubra valley. He slowed down his friends and ruined the rear wheel. I mean who would try to travel in Himalayas without even carrying a puncture repair kit.

That's stupidity obviously :) Extra tires and knick knacks are must.

I know it's a shame. But me and wife got only a week off from Work. And we badly wanted to do the trip.

I am reaching there on Aug 31st morning from De;hi by glight. Spending whole day for acclimatization.I am nervous about the aclimitization part.
Evening I plan to go book a taxi for Pangong for next day. Pangong on Sep 1st and return on Sep 2nd. So I plan to finish the high altitude/colder part first.
Sep 3rd I plan to hire a motorcycle and cover Nubra valley, khardungla and a couple of local monasteries. Leave Leh on 5th morning to Delhi by flight.

I need a small plan to follow on 2 days of motorcycling. It's just 2 days or motorcycling.
1. I am not a big biker person. Have always used it for commutes past 19 years. Gonna be riding Enfield for more than a kilomtere for the first time there. Planning for 350. what do you think?
2. How should I cover Nubra, some monastery and Khardungla in 2 days provided I come back to the guest house.
3. It's just me and my wide on the motorcycle?Nervous about motorcycle breaking down.So plan to get the newest looking motorcycle there.

You need to get a permit to visit certain places like the Pangong lake. That permit is available at the collectors office till 3pm and is valid for three days. Google more on it and you will get the precise info.
I am starting from Pune on 5th by flight to Srinagar. 5 & 6th Srinagar. Then on 7 start travel by road to Leh with halt at Drass/Kargil to see the war memorial.
Reach Leh hopefully on 8th and stay in Leh till 15th. Morning practice for the marathon and also visit whatever possible place during the rest of the day.

Dont worry about the acclimatization. You will get over it. Just rest and dont workout your lungs. Also I heard its not good to sleep in noons in Ladakh as its affects your lungs. Can anyone second this??

yeah you will need a permit to explore the ladakh. but that is very easy to get and the money you pay is I think goes to the NGO as a charity donation. we contacted a tourist guy in leh and he arranged our permits by the time we arrived in leh. people in leh are very sweet and friendly. Just try some tourist guide in leh and they will definitely arrage permits for you. Drass war memorial is a must stop and also the the zozilla war memorial. We were just taking dimox once a day for the first few days and after that it was good. if you get head aches, just drink a lot of water. it would be just like a bad hangover.

dont plan so tight, always leave 2-3 days for unforeseen stuff like acts of god. :p

basically, places like nubra and pangong tso are seperated by mountain passes, if there is a snowfall, the army will close down the checkpost and wait till the weather gets clearer and they doze the ice. you will be stuck in a small villege playing cards all day (read north pullu at khardungla). trust me its a personal experience.

regarding hotels, can anyone tell me, should we prebook them ??? or should we go there and book one

Also is there 3-4 star hotels available there or not ?
