I own a net book - lenovo s9. I use it as my download rig. But few days earlier I noticed that it is giving BSOD in windows xp. Actually that BSOD comes after 15-20 minutes after the desktop arrives. :(
I tried reinstalling windows, but still same pattern. According to BSOD issue is with atapi.sys.
I think ram gone. :( Still want ur views.
I also tried ubuntu and that too crashed after 15-20 minutes.
I do not have additional rams to check it out. So plz suggest what is the issue. Right now it is sleeping tightly. :(

Run memtest to check the RAM. Also check the hard drive for errors using HDTune.

Don't have external dvd drive to run memtest. :(
Suggest something that is possible without that(dvd drive).

What about the hard disk status? Did you run HDTune and check for any errors?

Will install xp tonite and post the screenshots.

I scanned hdd using HDTUNE and half a way long it showed 3 red blocks then suddenly BSOD and system restarted. :(
Help me out guys, this BSOD is screwing up all the data I wanna download.

as per your last post,it seems that the lap hdd is having some problem, if its under warranty replace via lenovo, else buy from a local dealer,(lenovo charges are very high for warranty expired parts).

What error did you get in Ubuntu?

In ubuntu system freezes and caps lock starts blinking.
And I attached the hard disk in my pc and scanned using hdtune and found that it have 5 bad blocks. What to do now guys???? Is it 100% confirmed that issue is with hard disk only???? If yes then is there any method to ignore/lock these sectors so that I can use this hdd since I'm short of money. :@

Plz reply asap. :(

its kernel panic due some seriours hardware error. Switch to terminal and keep typing every few minutes 'dmesg'. You get error

Your HDD is surely dying as shown by HDTune. I was having similar problem with my desktop (BSOD and starting problem) and HDD was the culprit here although it showed no errors initially. But bad sectors appeared suddenly after a few days.

Remove your HDD from the system and check its warranty through the manufacturer's website - if in warranty get it replaced.

Its outta warranty as it is an oem with laptop and laptop manufacturer(lenovo) gives only 1 yr warranty which ended in feburary. So tell guys what should I do now????

And is this 100% confirmed that BSODs were due to faulty hard disk????

^^ That is the most likely cause. If you have doubts about other components being faulty, get an alternative hard drive and use it in your laptop and try and find out if you get BSODs again. Bad sectors in hard disks are not repairable, and the most you can do is block the PC from using these bad sectors. THere are a few softwares for the same, and I believe there was a very recent discussion in TE regarding this.

I don't have any other 2.5" hdd, can this thing be checked using desktop's hard disk. If so then plz let me know how to do that.

Now I've have removed hard disk for a while and installed ubuntu in one pen drive using setup from other pen drive. And ran this setup for 6-7 hrs without any issue.

So plz tell me that is it 100% confirmed that only hard disk was the culprit??
