While its a good list its by no means comprehensive. And I'm not going to make one as compiling is really a hard task. What I would rather suggest is couple of games & quite a few places where artists can put their work for everybody to enjoy.

1. FizzBall - Grubby Games its a trial/commercial game but that one hr. is sure to get one addicted. Helping the poor animals :bleh:

2. open Outcast this one people are expecting to be pretty cool.

3. FreeCol

Now for artists who have a craving to do some good

1. Open Clip Art Library Drawing Together Its quite a competitive environment but u do have a chance to make it to the clipart of the week. On the home page itself you can see who were clipart of the week.
There are also contests here. Look at http://www.openclipart.org/wiki/Contests#Future_Contests the best one I like is a future one, the fantasy map symbols thing, that should generate some nice clipart which in turn would make things even better for us in the long-term.

Believe or not this shot is of wesnoth way way back.

2. PyWeek - Python Game Programming Challenge This is a 6 monthly contests. PyWeek - Four Yorkshiremen which in turn also put pressures on the 3 dependencies to have new releases. The only one lagging seems to be pyopengl otherwise it would be a marriage made in heaven.

I don't believe you escaped without giving any mention of Free MMORPG . Although I haven't played it otherwise I wouldn't get any work done but introduction looks really cool and it has quite a bit of history to it.

Although both slune & balazar are available both in debian as well as ubuntu they are currently unplayable due to an upstream bug.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122893

https://gna.org/bugs/?9180

Hopefully this one will be solved by the time Gutsy hits stable as we caught it early. There is something in doing bug-reporting triaging after all ;)

Unreal Tournament runs great on linux, and with its many mods it is quite a formidable game :)

Adventure game lovers can use ScummVM to play lucas-arts games (like Day of the tentacle, Full throttle, Monkey Island, Broken Sword) on linux.

Actually the great thing is the Soya 3D engine.

Soya 3D engine

Description :- Soya 3D is an object oriented "high level" 3D engine for Python. Somehow, Soya is to 3D what Python is to programming: an 'avant guarde' 3D engine, a kind of 'UFO' in the 3D world :-). Soya allows to develop very rapidly games of other 3D apps, entirely in the Python language (contrary to most of the other engine, in which Python is limited to scripting tasks).

Moreover, Soya is easy to learn and offers pretty good performances.

Soya is used successfully in 3D games, but also in demos, scientific simulations, or educational programs (see application using Soya for screenshots).

Soya offers the features one can expect from a 3D engine, like basic scene management, cell-shading, shadows, particles systems,... as well as some unique features aiming at making 3D development easier and more rapid (see Soya's feature).

Soya is Free Software, under the GNU GPL. Soya is written in Pyrex (a mix of C and Python) and in Python.
