looks like we have an old-timer here hehe..

welcome aboard, since here we are newbies to EDM maybe you could enlighten us even further :D

even messa transitioning into house/electro.. but its a very slow process made slower by the harsh realities of ratio issues on torrent sites lol.

but i do know one thing i wont be totally into house or totally into trance. a bit of everything shall keep me going ;)

given that the stuff you hear on local radio is apalling,

Wait, there's trance in local radio?! lol, all I can find is the local radio mirchi stuff.

Going back to my roots in electronic, I don't really remember much, but I have this Psychedelics Trance cassette album from a long time ago, then I moved onto the cheesy eurodance genre, and I believe it was eurodance on the internet that got me acquired to trance. I still have that stuff, artists like Rollergirl and Real Mccoy and even DJ Sammy are hard to miss here, but now, I can't stand them anymore, moved onto progressive commercial we have today being played by guys like Armin all the time.

yup a long thread sorry if I have repeated anything :)

@blr_p

I'm with you, also went through a big house stage around 99.. I live in Northern Cal.. and went to gigs to watch dj's like Mark Farina... little louie vega, marcus wyatt, doc martin...... Naked music used to have a monthly gig at a club here... went to Burning Man in 2000, and Shambala in 2004.....

After that phase ... electrionica kind of went underground a bit.... over here.. and then broke out into Drum and Bass quite heavy.

Things are pretty mixed these days, you can catch just about anything....

My tastes have chilled out quite a bit... no more underground clubbing till 7:00am... I settled down with a woman I met out at a rave in 2000 and we have been together ever since ;)

My tastes today... on the mellower sides for you Trancers... here are some cd's and dj's/bands I like

Nightmares on Wax - (a group.. not a cd)

Thievery Corporation - (If you have never heard of them ... you need to listen to them... but it is chillish)

Hotel Costes - (a 9 cd compilation series by a great french dj called Stephane Pompougnac these are seperate cd's)

Stephane Pompougnac - (I'm putting him here separately too, as he has cd's other than Hotel Costes)

Daddy G - DJ Kicks (Daddy G is one of the originators of Massive Attack)

And of course

Massive Attack - (If you don't know them you will most certainly recognize some of their songs if you listen to them)

Runaways UK (a little more hip-hoppy.. but reasonably chill)

Peaches - (all over the map.. but some electronica stuff mixed in.. much harder style.... if you don't like bad language... don't listen to this)

Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions - (I think this qualifies.. as reggae electronica... figure that one out :) )

And of course.. the very famous......

Kruder and Dormeister - (this music has been around for ever, but a must if you like chill electronica and have never listened to them)

and a few more........

Mo' Horizons

One Self

Dirty Beatniks

Count Basic

DJ Shadow

and lastly the OM Lounge series of cd's

oh yeah.. been listening to Kwaito African house... latley.. kinda cool (Kwaito is a style of music not a band)

Whoa, nice to see someone at the same stage, i've very familiar with all you posted there. Also the OM label stuff. The naked sound was quite good at the time, but it was a marked diff to the usual harder prog house i was used to. I was in NYC when Miguel migs came to pimp his nude tempo album, loved the album but found the live performance a bit weak. Deep house for me is better enjoyed sitting down i think hehe. Thanfully JAY-J-Hernandez was there too, and got the place storming.

Mark Farina's mushroom jazz series...love, love, love it.

Some special feelings here for that SF crew.

If you are going to take anything from that fine list posted above, it would be Massive Attack their earlier stuff, when they were still intact, and K&D, which i would extend to Tosca, which is just Dorfmeister with another dude. K&D pioneered the Austrian downtempo scene and it's never been the same since. dZihan & Kamien are also very special in this area too.

I've recently got into this label, oakland based, interesting. Only heard last days from that label, but its made me interestd. Proem is certainly worth checking out.

Another interesting label is this one.

Miguel Migs... very cool, he played a lot of the OM parties, I agree.. he was either very on, or very off. If you like more progressive house, he did a lot of other music under pseudonym Pedal Pusher, much more vibrant.

I watched Mark Farina a number of times, he played on a boat party my wife and I were on. 6 hours around the bay, three levels of dj's... and Mark Farina headlining.. talk about up close and personal... he really got the crowd moving too.

I like Tosca too.
I'm in the Bay area SF/Oakland and around. We had some friends that did a lot of the Spundae promos, and parties... and we used to know tons of promoters and dj's around here. The Bay Area has always had one hell of a dj scene, which is always changing and shifting. Sad to say.. I'm older now and and pretty mellow these days, a fun night out is a movie or dinner with the wife ;)

I will definitely check those label, thanks :)

For you Trancers.. Paul Okenfeld was awesome at Burning Man in 2000 :bleh:

Those labels i suggested are in the IDM genre. Not the get-up-and-shake kind of music, more the sitting down kind :)

Lane - Angel Falls (Lange's Firewall Remix)

New progressive tune (aired in ASOT 299), I'm ADDICTED to this one!!

Its not released yet, but I ripped it out of the radio. PM me and I'll upload it somewhere.
