Well, anyhow if the mouse's under warranty, Logitech says Rashi's supposed to replace them; At least thats what those Logitech Support ppl intimated me; :)

And Rashi... Sigh.. Thats another story.. :(

ok moving to another issue

in summer when you dont use the mouse...and just store it away, due to the heat the click wheel starts to melt a little or sumthing

the wheel was all greasy..sort of like what happens to pen grips

it happened to me as well as my friend when we returned to college after 3 months... btw they are the 1600dpi 2.5k-3k costing ones

anyone else seen this?

That's just the combination of air moisture, dust and skin flakes coming together to form a sort of paste and depositing on places where there was the most oil and sweat residue (usually on keyboards and mouse buttons/wheels).

yep thts very much noticeable on rubber grips..n similar type materials..even rubberbands jus melt n stick like anything

no peeling off for me as of now. Its been some 5 months now. Lets see how my mouse holds up. I got it from Amarbir.

Time to bump this thread!

I have seen some recommendations of the MX518 off-lately. Might as well keep the members informed of this issue which might crop up later. Worry not, keep the bill safe since Logitech had assured me before that the mouse can be replaced when this happens. I had the MX518 almost 3 years back and the rodent replacement cycle went like this - MX518 < Razer DA < MS IE 3.0 < Razer DA 3.5G

JFTR, even the MS IE 3.0 has similar issues - discoloration of the plastic body.

my MX-518 never lasts beyond a year so no melting issues for me :P , right now MX is kept stacked inside using a death adder :P

I bought my MX518 second hand and absolutely no issues with the rubber grip peeling off. In fact its in pretty good condition considering its almost a 1.5 years old now and yes, I do game and use it extensively :P

The only cosmetic damage that seems to be occuring is that the Logitech logo on the top seems to be losing its black paint. I can see a little silver poking out at the edges of the circle.

^Then it possibly belongs to the first generation. A quick way to know that would be to compare the bottom surfaces of the mouse.

This is the surface of the older lot:

And this belongs to the newer lot, courtesy Newegg:

Note the change in mouse feet types.

^... Not necessarily... My mouse is the above one & it has peeled... I didn't bothered with RMA & am still using it. It doesn't make much difference & in fact the underlying surface is quite shiny & suits my taste...

Great Bump mate , You will also have to note , the connecting wire the 518 comes with sometimes gets cramps/bumps. My MS IE 3.0 is having huge discoloration problems, I'm not sure if Microsoft will be considering my problem to be a valid reason to replace my mouse though :(

PS : Gannu could you give us the case number for the ticket you raised with Logitech support ? Or possibly a screenshot of the mail or something like that ? I'm pretty sure rashi will start whining if we all go get our mice replaced by tell someone from tech support told so ?

TYIA :)
