I personally don't advocate Marriages in the first place, so a strict no no for intercaste Marriages.

Intercaste Marriages work very well only if both the families know each other and are okay with the marriage.

Same case different outcome here. A couple I know from work Muslim Guy and Hindu girl took to special marriage act. Families were not okay with the pairing.
There will be a lot of resistance and people you don't know will turn up, your nearest religious organisation's head, talk, threaten etc. but the couple stood strong, I was quite surprised by their defiance but they are happily married.
the laws in this country. Sheesh.

^hindu brahmin guy and muslim girl. the movie name is "pune" (like bombay) till their marriage. both the guys ran for their life and finally after marriage. they moved to singapore and happily ever after. two kids etc... he is a friend & colleague of mine when I was working in pune.

And all the other people, why are you thinking about divorce even before getting married? divorce is always painful and there are no winners.

This issue was 2 yrs ago, I don't remember the exact issues, the 1954 act was problematic in almost all issues, as suggested by the lawyers . For all marriage related disputes for the 1954 act doesn't have proper solutions, for example domestic violence, dowry etc. What's worse, there's no clear provision for Divorce for those married under this act. It's more of a disadvantage to the woman.

The couple I talked about belonged to same profession, had 4yr long relationship with 1yr live-in prior to getting married.

Yeah forgot to mention,
You need good understanding between both families for inter religious marriages to work.
Else they should stay far away from both families.
Or in a certain closed communities in India like armed forces etc where this dirty community influence is negligible.
If it's a different country it's all the more easier.
IMHO We are the worst kind of racist people in the world.

Yeah it's wrong to think of divorce at the first instance of marriage but you should be aware of the consequences.
In fact, marriage is the basic prerequisite for a Divorce !

My suggestion is for intercaste couple is to stay away from the respective families if either of them disapprove the relationship. At least for the first 3yrs, until the understanding between the couple improve. Problems usually start after 1st year, when couple come out of the initial euphoria & realize that maintaining a successful marriage is equally big challenge.

The Cast system is Indian version of Racism ..
Some of our races are hell bent upon proving that " their Race is more Backward than others " !!
This kind of Reverse racial superiority is not seen in West, Our Racism is Unique & Ugly .

Usually if the parents agree, exterior relatives or siblings create a ruckus. In India, society loves to poke their nose in other's matters and give obtrusive comments. We have centuries to traverse before this stigma reaches nominal levels at India. Brahmins are the worst. They at times give their daughters to different castes, but always insist on Brahmin brides for their boys, to maintain their patrilineal caste homogeneity.

The sole reason is for girl wedding you will have to shell out truck loads of dowry if you want to see your daughter in good house, so they go for intercaste, but when the time comes for taking dowry, they start searching for rich girl who can fulfill their wishes.

M happy that in my caste, any form of dowry is strictly banned, and if anyone is found doing so, he is thrown out of the community for a long time along with penalty also :P

The word Racism has become a synonym for all manner of discrimination though the word itself is definition to be used for racial discrimination.

Discriminatory systems themselves in all manners have their roots in so called early "civilizations" like Indian or the Egyptian (Though such practices can hardly be called civilized) and dates back by 5 millennium or more.
While other later civilizations have also acquired this bad practice, over the years, their societies have consciously tried to get rid of it or at the very least reduce it while on the other hand, ours has chosen to cling to all bad practices and refuse to let go of them in the name of culture and heritage while what little good we had was discarded. Whats unique about our country is that discrimination exists in countless different forms and not just one or two like in other country and whats even more worrying is the fact that instead of progressing even at a slow pace, our country is doing the opposite.

As Darwin said, a species which cannot adapt to change will soon become unfit for survival and get eliminated from the race for survival and this trend of clinging to useless things like our so called culture and heritage (which has nothing good still left in it at this point of time) is leading our country there.

Why the **** would anyone pay a penalty, when he is going to be thrown out anyway.
