What :O

If you have uninstalled it, how on Earth are you able to play, let alone having "extremely slow frame rate" >_>". Dude no offense but please for your sanity and everybody's type your damned words and frame your sentences properly.

Dude, if you know a solution then you can help without mocking me also.
I have reinstalled it (and thats pretty much understood!) and now it doesn't run properly,

I'm in the middle of a playthrough of Mass Effect right now. This game seems to be processor hungry. I'm running on Win 7 and can see a 90% core utilization for both cores when the game is running. Perhaps you have some other processes running in the background that take up a lot of CPU and your laptop's processor is struggling? Please check that. Also, if you are able to enter the Settings screen try reducing all effects to minimum and then check.

I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6400 + Intel DG35EC combination with an XFX GTS250 on a 1440x900 screen with all effects at maximum.

PS: Not to nitpick but please spell out your words and frame sentences. This will benefit the many people who come to these forums for aid and view your thread.

Cheers

Well I'm running vista but my main question is that when it was running smoothly before then now what change may have taken place?
I have tried shutting down my anti virus (NIS2010) as well and I'm not running any resource hog programs while playing.
Still, I'll try your suggestion and kill any other processes that may be running without my knowledge.
And, no I'm not able to reach anywhere beyond "Press any key" screen because the frame rate becomes so slow its impossible to do anything, its like seeing a slow slide show!!

No1 is mocking you. When you're expressing your issue, its you who has to express it properly. Vaguely describing the issue and not framing the sentence properly isn't going to help you. Rather its simply going to make it worse if someone is going to give you a wrong TB step because you didn't give the relevant info properly.

Do the following if you want to do things properly in the same order as put up before:

# Mention everything that you have done till now.

# Stop killing other processes.

# Make efforts to mention your laptop configuration. If you don't know, google and install cpu-z, click on validate, put your email address, go ahead and put the URL of the cpu-z link over here.

# See if other games are working. If they are working, backup the game saves of mass effect, uninstall the game, run CCleaner and restart. Then reinstall the game and install the new patch. Put the game saves back on see if it works.

OP: Please mention the configuration of your laptop. What we need in order to help you is:

1) CPU and speed (model no. and no.of cores)

2) Graphic card

3)amount of RAM installed

4) Resolution and other graphic settings you are using.

Also, you might want to check your laptop if any power saving feature is enabled.

And, please provide maximum information when asking for help.

Sorceror: He is new to the forums, maybe to any tech forum. Please use polite language at least for the first time you come across someone like this. Its very easy to shout at others, but its very difficult to answer and resove their problems. I think you choose the easy path.....

(A)Here's the laptop configuration:
1. Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC Rev 1
2. Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 (build 6002)
1.85 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded

3. 3070 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
4. NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS [Display adapter]
Generic PnP Monitor (15.4"vis)

(B) I haven't tried killing processes as yet, so thats OK.

(C) Other games like Crysis, Crysis Warhead are running fine (with reduced resolution, of course). I have tried CCleaner and Tune Up Utilites 2010 after the earlier uninstall, to no avail.
I'll try the new patch to see if that works (the game, however had run fine earlier without the patch).

(D) I have tried doing following:

1. CCleaner and Tune Up Utilites 2010, as told earlier.
2. Defragmented all drives.
3. Tried clearing more space on C drive (OS installed on C drive).
4. Tried updating the video drivers but they were already updated. I haven't tried reinstalling them as yet as I was apprehensive about it but can do if it is considered safe.
5. Tried shutting down the anti virus while playing to no avail.

(E) I usually use resolutions lower than 1024X768 (because of the modest laptop configuration) on other games that I play and had done the same for this one earlier, when it was running.
I hope this gives you and anyone else interested to help, good information about the problem, the steps taken, etc.

I guess my reply to Sorcerer has given you all the information you need for a solution. Please reply if you need to know something else.
The graphic settings that I use to play most games are usually the lowest ones and mind you that even Crysis ran fine on my laptop with reduced settings and Mass Effect too ran fine the first time I tried it out.

Update the patch, see if it works.

Are you using Daemon tools and use the discs' ISO image? Is your windows UAC switched off? Which nvidia drivers?

Few vista users had the problem to run this game with the UAC on. Follow one of these steps to disable UAC: Disable User Account Control in Windows Vista

After doing so, restart the laptop and then give it a shot.

I am assuming you downloaded the drivers from nvidia site and not the HP site, right?

Also, try updating the game with the latest patch, if you havent done that.....

Try exiting antivirus if you are using one....

Report back....:)

I tried using the two new patches 1.01 and 1.02 to no avail.
Turning off the UAC also didn't help.

I didn't download anything, I just tried to update the drivers through Device Manger and it said the best driver is already installed.
My windows is updated.
Patches didn't help. Shutting down the anti-virus , I've tried before also to no avail.

Yes get the latest drives from nvidia's website use ccleaner to clean you registry there is a separate option for that chose the registry option and chose to fix.

I'm right now donwloading an update from the nvidia site.
Using Ccleaner (and Tune Up utilities) didn't help.

Do the following. After you have downloaded the nvidia drivers, download driver sweeper as well.

Uninstall the old nvidia drivers, run driver sweeper, select nvidia and go ahead with the process. restart the system and install the new drivers.

+1 for that... thats the best way to normally clean up nvidia's driver mess IMHO too

Alright so here's the update.
I did as I was told here but the problem still remains.
One of the other games, viz Section8, had installed some Nvidia Physx drivers which also got swept away in the process. That is not a problem though as I can reinstall Section8.
But the problem with Mass Effect remains the same.

Right click on masseffect.exe and then click on run as administrator. It worked for some people who are using laptops.

If this doesn't work, answer that daemon tools I mentioned above.
