Microsoft has finally revealed prices for its Surface tablets which were unveiled in July .
The hotly anticipated tablets will start from $499 for the 32GB version without Touch cover. For $599 , one gets the 32GB Surface tablet bundled with the Touch Cover valued at $119. The 64 GB bundle also includes the touch cover and costs $699. With the cover, the Surface can work both as a tablet and as a PC .
The Surface Touch cover has an integrated touch-sensitive keys. One can also purchase Surface Type cover which has physical keys instead of touch-keys for $129.
The specifications of these Surface tablets include a Nvidia Tegra 3 T30 chipset with 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core CPU , GeForce ULP GPU with 12cores clocked at 520MHz , 2GB RAM , USB 2.0 port , microSDXC card reader and two 720p HD cameras on front and back . The display is 10.6 inches ClearType HD with 1336x768 resolution and has Gorilla Glass on top.
The pricing is in line with Apple iPad pricing which starts at $499 and goes up to $699 for the Wi-Fi versions.
But, these are prices for Windows RT based tablets and the more powerful Pro ones with Windows 8 will cost more with prices comparable to notebooks and ultrabooks . The Surface Pro tablets will come in 64GB and 128GB variants.
