Friends,

I have not yet changed my number thru mobile number portability but soon might do, because airtel service sucks:@!

Certainly some of the members would have changed their service providers, can you guys share your experience for members looking for change?:cool2:

Your input could be like....

* From which operator to which did you change?

* Reason for change? (Call Drops, Shi*ty Customer Care, Improper Billing, etc..)

* How satisfied are you with the new operator?

* How was the process of changing the operator? Did you face any difficulties? Delays?

* Any Advice for people going to change? Any Recommendations?

Any input is appreciated!:D
Thanks

I was going to make a similar thread. Can everyone list their Opertor, Region, Call Charges, Monthly Rental, # of Free Calls, # of Free Messages, Any other charges, GPRS Rate/3G Rate -

This will be useful when we plan to change ops or we can tell our current ops that we are getting a better plan else where and make them give us better rates! :D

Cheers,

Ashwin

Best of luck trying, almost everyone whom I know who wanted to change, got their application rejected. MNP is a farce..

I wanted to move from Voda. to airtel. Application rejected. :(

Moral - All operators are equally useless. Stay with current operator.

But i would definitely like to hear some happy stories, anybody successfully MNP`ied ? and actually happy with their new operator. ?

I had a very good experience in terms of MNP. I had been using Docomo prepaid and have now moved to Idea post-paid. Docomo was the worst connection I have ever had. I was always looking for signal. CAll would always drop and people would never get my number.

How I got it: Well, a guy comes in our office to give away Idea numbers. He took my ID proof and just did the rest for me.

Just in case it is easier to go from Pre-paid to another connection, I suggest you change to Pre-paid first.

On what basis are they rejecting the applications?
In my case, they said i didn`t have required balance. Airtel wanted me to have 22+ balance in my current account.

Whereas i had used all the balance , as it cant be carried forward.

I guess there was a similar rant thread a month ago.

But then you could have recharged your account and then attempted... Or am I missing something??

An excuse like that for rejecting the Porting is really lame. :O

Well i have had 2 of my no's ported to bsnl just for 3G services.

And many of my friends have done it too and none of us got their application rejected :)

Only downside i saw till now is that the waiting time when you call the CC is always more than 30mins.

whenever i try porting my no from airtel to some other (actually i dont want to port in the first place :P) the airtel customer care calls me and keeps giving me offers and offers and i m loving it :

when u send a porting request to 1900 and then when u get the porting id , the customer care calls u to retain u and then just blast them bla bla....

first i was given 10p/min a2a & 30p/min a2m , then next month i got free missed call alerts (for which airtel normally charges rs 15/month , docomo gives free by default)

i m on airtel special retention plan :D

my advice , unless ur operator network sucks in ur area with frequent call drops , try this method to get cheaper offers without porting :P

* From which operator to which did you change?

I wanted to change from Docomo to Reliance GSM

* Reason for change?

Bad network, slow internet, no 3g

* How satisfied are you with the new operator?

Change didn't happen :(

* How was the process of changing the operator? Did you face any difficulties? Delays?

It was terrible. I filled the form the first day porting was enabled (20th Jan), was told that number will be ported in 7 days. No response after that, and the customer care of Reliance sucks big time :@ Didn't get time to visit their office and anyway, the porting id was valid only for 15 days. Will probably take another gamble and try once more.

* Any Advice for people going to change? Any Recommendations?

Read around and make sure to avoid all loopholes that the operators might use to reject your application. Reliance plans and network are good but the CC is the worst. Docomo is terrible overall. :@

I have a very bad experience with this MNP farce. Wanted my wife to shift to airtel from vodafone because of no decent calling rates and no full talk time recharges.

Airtel people never ported the number to their network and have no reason too. They are telling us to resubmit the documents and i was like WTF. Have not bothered since to get it ported back.

On a side note, last week or so, airtel had cut 25 rs from my balance for 1 day / UL GPRS usage (which i never subscribed to) and hence i threatened them that i will shift to some other operator and they gave me my money back in just couple of hours.

Reliance has an issue with CC. :@
lost my 3rupees for No reason to which the cc only offered an apology. wtf!
Now i do not keep any balance in it and will try porting On it soon just to threaten to improve the services.
Overall i like reliance for their flaws.

I had ported my airtel number to Docomo recently. I havent faced any issues with MNP, however airtel CC called me and told that there is some tech issue with porting and takes around 2 weeks to solve it and asked to stay with airtel but i refused. After one day i got message about porting and will be completed on the same day in the night.

It looks like they tried to retain me with false information.

WTF, it's obvious that I'll try to use all my balance since it can't be carried forward. Who gave you this info regarding Rs.22 balance, Airtel or your new operator?

If one is porting from a postpaid connection, make sure that the outstanding is cleared.

I was suggested to pay a little more than the outstanding, just in case the MNP is delayed.

Paid about 50 bucks more than the outstanding. Was successfully ported from Reliance CDMA to Airtel.

most of time they reject saying unbilled amount not cleared which is kind a impossible as till bill get generate no one can clear unbilled amount. so its a loophole operator using to reject application so this is major issue postpaid customer facing when it comes to mnp

There is no loophole on unbilled amount. They cannot reject on grounds of unbilled amount. A subscriber has to pay the last billed amount to successfully port. Even after porting out, any unbilled amount will be billed as a normal process. The subscriber is supposed to pay that within the stipulated time.

If the subscriber who has ported out does not pay the amount then the donor operator can raise a non-payment disconnection of his services tothe new operator.

If the new operator disconnects then the number is lost for at least 3 months as it cannot be activated in any network.

this happened with me 2 times as airtel rejected my application on basis of unbilled amount thats why i mentioned it here, but later when i jack them badly they okay my application 3rd time and its not just me many are facing same issues
