Hello

Waht mobo should I get for the core2duo 6300. I have shortlisted the following with 965 chipset :

1. MSI NEO-F
2. Intel 965RY (Onboard graphics)

Also, the above are not available in my hometown Jaipur. So, are there any reliable shops who accept email orders or any online computer store in India.
Thanks

Mohit Sah

If you are really short on budget then the MSI P965 neo-f at 6.5k is really gr8 value for money..i bought the same mobo for my E6300 from Lamington rd. Mumbai..If u are ready to spend around 9k then the Asus P5B is the board to go for..the intel 965RY is not a very good choice..the onboard gfx sucks..sooner or later u'll have to buy a good gfx card if u play games..go for it only if you do not get MSI or ASUS in ur city..:)

What abt GIGABYTE-DS3 ,its price..and perf.?

the model nos. are confusing..if anyone cn mentiond all three models n thier prices..it'l be great...

MSI 965P NEO - 6.5K

GIGABYTE 965P DS3 - 9.5K

and INTEL 965RY - 6k (approx)

@Mohit: thnx but by all 3, i meant all 3 of gigabyte.. i guess one for sm 7k,odr sm 9 n last 11

can u mention those three wid near exact prices!!

Gigabyte 96P S3 - around 6-6.5k (but not available anywhere)

Gigabyte 96P DS3 - around 9.5k

Gigabyte 96P DQ6 - around 13-14k (not really sure about this one)

Where can we fix MSI-NEO-F in above list...

is it better than GB-S3?

not exactly better than the S3 as of now ...but the newer BIOS updates should make it total VFM ...and the S3 is not available anywhere sadly.

but since the s3 is not available, the MSI P965 neo is rit now the best vfm board available in the market..its performance is better than the intel RY and not really reflective of its meagre price..plus the lifetime warranty (3 yrs) adds to the value..it may not be the one of the best ocer boards for the c2d, but nevertheless, is quiet capable in its own sense..and yeah, like mohit says, a bios update is all tht is stopping it from being a ferrari..(maybe an overstatement but have no doubts..its capable of being one..;) )

So can we conclude that since the gigabyte is not available MSI Neo is the best buy (in the given budget).

^^going by boards available for the c2d around the 7k bracket, at the moment , yes..its the best vfm buy..:)
mind u, its not the obvious choice of enthusiasts and ocers, the Asus P5B deluxe is better but then, when u look at the price:performance ratio, the asus seems a tad bit too costly..whereas the MSI does what it says and does it cheap..:ohyeah:

Well comparing Asus P5B Dlx and MSI 965 Neo isnt fair.P5B Dlx is in a league of its own and evne though it costs more, it is more feature rich and when it comes to OCability,P5B Dlx will eat the Neo for breakfast. So dont compare both as it can be quite misleading.

Both are targetted at different buyers. ;)

Yah friend, thts why i said, the MSI 965 neo is not the obvious choice for enthusiasts n ocers..the Asus P5B deluxe is.. :) n i dont intend to compare them..i was just talking about the vfm part(price : performance)..the Neo in its price bracket is good VFM while the P5B getting the deluxe monicker with the crossfire is a tad too costly..the P5B vanilla seems to be a better value for money..but yet again, vfm means different things to differnt ppl..so no offense,hehe..:)

Thanks for replies.

I am getting the Asus P5B for 7700 and Intel RY for 7000 here now. I am leaning towards the intel as it also has integrated graphics.

The Asus would mean spending another 1500 on graphics card and I am not much of an overclocker or a gamer.

Is the performance of intel RY stable and fast enough for normal usage.

Thanks

^^in tht case, the RY fits ur bill..it is very stable..(one of intel mobo's virtues..n pretty much the only virtue..;) )...It is quiet good for normal usage..n since u r not much a gamer, its onboard graphics shud provide ample performance for videos and a few games at low settings.. still, i'll suggest u get a gfx card(thr are a lot of cheap gfx cards available..) :)

the P5B mk mentioned must be vanilla for sure n not dlx..

what do we say abt vanilla...havent heard much abt it...though a cheap n good alternative frm asus..

You can go for any Asus mobo with ur eyes closed..i had a P4p800 delux for nearly 2.5 yrs and it never ever caused a single hiccup in tht period..it was the most reliable mobo i evr had..sad, i had to part with it because of migration from AGP to PCI-e..:(

the P5B vanilla is indeed a very good mobo..infact apart from the Crossfire technology(2 pci-e slots for ATI cards) and the revised ICH8R southbridge(for raid support), there isnt much difference between the P5B and the P5B Deluxe..maybe the deluxe has more ocing features than the vanilla but not evryone is going to OC their systems.. so the P5B is a good value mobo but I am not sure if it really is available for 7.7k...i was quoted a price of 8.3k for the P5B vanilla..so i had to settle for MSI 965 NEo as i had other things to get..:)
