Hi All,

My Friend wants to upgrade his Motherboard as his current one is gone really bad..He wants to keep his Processor and other components. he may also chip in for DDR3 RAM

Budget - Upto 5k

Following is the Current Config

CPU- AMD Athlon 64 3000+
MB - Asus M2N-MX
RAM- 1 GB DDR2
HDD- Seagate 500 gb
GPU - Onboard nvidia 6100 series

Give me your valuable suggestions with and without DDR3 RAM support on the Motherboard

Thanks & Regards...

5k is not enough to upgrade to ddr3.
Joy if your friend wants a faster PC then ask him to upgrade his cpu and motherboard and keep the rest.
AMDx2 along with a biostar dd2 motherboard. should come to 4,100.
Get another 1GB of ddr2 ram at about 1,100.

OptionI

Biostar A780L~2.5k

Biostar A780L CPU Support List

1GB DDRII 800MHz Kingston RAM ~ 1.2k/2GB DDRII 800MHz Kingston RAM ~ 2.2k(After selling current 1GB RAM for ~0.7k)--> Better choice as the mobo has only 2DIMM slots

He could even plonk in a used AthlonII X2 240~2k if he able to find it or even a used Sempron 140~1.3k or new one ~1.7k would give him significant performance upgrade if he is not satisfied with older proccy.

Or like Sandy says,

AMD AthlonII X2 240~2.8k

Gigabyte M61PME-S2P~2.1k(If he cant spend even Re.1 more than 5k)/Biostar A780L~2.5k

OptionIII

AMD AthlonII X2 240~2.8k

Gigabyte 74GMT-S2~2.7k

2GB Kingston 1333MHz DDR3 RAM ~2.25k(Not sure whether there are 1GB modules in the market)

DDRIII RAM is not supported by his Proccy.

SIMPLE HERE IS THE OPTIONS
Motherboard:
Asus m4n68t-m ddr3 upto 8gb support with inbuilt geforce 7025 graphics adapter 256 mb
it costs around Rs 3400
2gb ddr3 ram either kingston or transcend for 2600

TOTAL- RS 5600

The motherboard is backward compatible to his processor. so no prob there
