+1.... finally, some one who thinks it looks cool too.teocem said:Compared to HTC Desire Z; MM2 is lighter, thinner, looks more cool, has better battery life, better cpu and has a slider mechanism that has proven itself. Enough ?

Lighter and Thinner --> Milestone 2 wins. But by a very small amount.teocem said:Compared to HTC Desire Z; MM2 is lighter, thinner, looks more cool, has better battery life, better cpu and has a slider mechanism that has proven itself. Enough ?
I have to admit that I do get some of your points, some I do not, and some do not apply to me.Superfrag said:Lighter and Thinner --> Milestone 2 wins. But by a very small amount.
Looks --> Subjective.
Battery Life --> MM2 hasn't even been released, how do you know how long the battery lasts? My G2 lasts for 14-22 depending on usage, which is pretty good. And when applying KK's Undervolt kernel, the battery improves even more.
Better CPU --> Really? Where is your source for this? Incase you didn't know, the G2 @ 800Mhz beats the Droid 2 at 1Ghz. So assume the same for Desire Z and Droid 2, since both of these have the same internal hardware as their US counterparts. The Desire Z has a better GPU, and a better CPU. And don't forget overclocking ; the G2 when OC'ed to 1Ghz smashes the competition, at 1.4Ghz it just flies. Its stable at 1.2, which is already crazy fast. I had OC'ed mine to 1.2 for kicks, but I'm back to 800Mhz, because at 800Mhz the phone runs as smooth as it ran at 1.2Ghz. So here the Desire Z wins. See these two benchmarks -->

Slider Mechanism --> Both work well. Its a tie.
Now positive points for Desire Z :
1) Has similar hardware to G2 which runs stock Android. So it will get updates faster when future OS versions come out.
2) The latest Sense UI in Desire Z is much much better than Motoblur. Milestone 1 had stock Android, MM2 does not. If you prefer Motoblur over Sense, well, the discussion is already pointless.
3) The bootloader is locked thanks to the eFuse protection by Motorola. So no Custom ROM's by the various devs such as Cyanogen.
4) Desire Z/HTC phones will have great community support no matter what. The G1 which was the first Android phone, released 2008 October, has Froyo ROM's for it, thanks to its great community support. It got Froyo before SGS or Milestone 1. Or Droid X. Although due its inferior hardware it doesn't run well. I just put out this point to make you realize the support G2/Desire Z will get.
In the end, its your choice. I really don't understand why someone would go for MM2 over Desire Z, but YMMV I suppose.
Ah well, different users have different requirements.. lack of custom ROM's is a dealbreaker for me.. lol. HTC might only support the phone till a certain OS, but thanks to custom ROM's, we can expect better support from the community.teocem said:I have to admit that I do get some of your points, some I do not, and some do not apply to me.
First of all form factor along with weight and thickness are important issues for me. Bootload and custom Rom are not of much interest to many users. You are probably right for the cpu but I am not sure it will make much difference. Battery life issue is very important for serious users and will be the dealbreaker for me. Anyway, your post has tempted me to buy both of these phones and then decide. I am actually tempted the buy Motorola Droid Pro SE, which has a similar candy shape as my present Nokia E72, as well !
As I receive and use them, it would be nice to share our experiences.
I hope your future posts will not cost me as much !!!
