i dunno, but at those prices, you could get a decent BB. check out ISP's like Sify, BSNL and Airtel BB tariffs, they have BB going on low as rs.200-500 p/m.

I have HP iPAQ 6515 which supports Edge. I am using Airtel connection and I can browse net on my PC using Bluetooth. I get good speed via Airtel GPRS as compare to Reliance CDMA. Also Airtel GPRS is Rs.499/mo with unlimited download/upload :)
 
^^ dunno about edge....but with CDMA, (I use that while travelling) I get not more than 40-50 kbps (that too on good days)...115 is the theoritcal max on CDMA......

Anyway, coming back to Mangesh's qstn, I think a fixed (ADSL/Cable) based BB connection would suit his needs better
 
Unless you need to download heavy file you can opt for BSNL or Airtel Broadband connection @ Rs.500+99/- per month you get 1 GB D/L and U/P.
