Hi All,
Just want to share what I thought and what I feel with my Apple iPad 2 64 GB Wifi.
I bought the device (my First with Apple) in June last week. Requirements were
1. an E Reader
2. portable gaming device
3. Portable entertainment
4. Off course, to feel iOS.
5. Handy and comfortable browsing experience.
6. Cameras (are they?)
After using for some time, I think as a book reader, this device is a failure. My current eyesight is 6/6. I feel it may go down with this device if I keep reading books. For the first time in my long years of computer and TV usage, I am feeling some discomfort with my eyes. My PC with 24" LCD monitor is more comfortable. This is nowhere near to Kindle and sure a real book.
I would say its great to open PDFs on this . The fonts are so nicely rendered(I guess this is the right term) if you enlarge it. (But cant keep reading for long time because of back lit)
I am not a PC gamer. But I feel the touch screen on iPad is perfect for games. And the response for UI in iOS is amazing. So for gaming I love this.
Especially board games.
iOS is great. What it promises it delivers. the UI is much super than Android. for Example, scroll by touch on your iPad or iPhone and compare the response the Samsung Galaxy. In Galaxy, the screen just scrolls wildly. No proper speed control. But in iPad or iPhone, it responses so realistic as though we roll a real life wheel or something. Superb. Apps might crash some times. But only Apps. no OS crash. Because most of the free apps I do have are "Free" u know
But most of the app developers provide update for bug fixing. So don't worry about the app stability at all.
Videos..great. Sound as well as video quality. If you need to watch videos in a highly portable way, this is the device. Don't get confused with 4:3 screen size and wide screen videos. 4:3 screen is formed after doing a lot of R&D on human aesthetics. So for all the general viewing 4:3 is perfect. And Wide screen are used in some of the movies, to have a more horizontal view(especially, movies are moving objects, action. So we feel more enriched with wide 16:9 or so). This is also after long R&D. So a physical screen cant adjust the size on the run. My advise is be with 4:3 screen for a tablet. Because other than video, all things are perfect on 4:3. I am quite happy with iPad videos. Though I prefer to watch movies on my 24" wide PC monitor to watch movies and other high resolution videos.
Browsing is so great. Fast . compared to PC . The Safari browser is great. And the Email App also very handy. I don't have no complaints on this area. Regional language pages may not appear with right letters. It may appear as split ones.
All other UI functions (Touch screen) like scrolling, zoom in and out, dragging, all response like real life. So fast .
Don't buy this device for photography. Buy an SLR instead. Probably go for an iPhone for that.
you can shoot your kid's playing video. And have a look just for good memory. Don't expect this as a cam coder either.
But image display is great provided you load images from an SLR. So iPad does it real purpose as a great portable image viewer. The finger touch flipping is great.
No need of jail breaking since App store itself has enough apps you can imagine.
Bottom line: The price should be a 20% low. Then only I can say its Value for money device.
I am going for a Kindle 3rd Gen. Because I want a portable book reader which does no harm to my precious eye sight. No compromise on it.
