Weird things can happen .... really....as i have come to know only recently..nowhere else but our very own Mumbai's lamington road..so it goes like this..

Being a pocket-money gamer, i had my eye on the ati4670 for quite a while...and ive been following it up...reading reviews, price updates on the net for more then 2 months now...and surely back then(2 months ago) the card cost around 6k..attractive..but i decided to wait...n recently with its price drop to around 5.1k, i decided to go for the kill..
As a starting point, i chose lamington road..made a trip there yesterday..at the first store i asked,said said its for 5.1 k but after a phone call to the "supplier", said that it "fluctuated" to 5.8k..weird..so i moved on..
shop no. 2 also quoted (after their customary phone calls to the supplier,of course) the same rate..5750/-...n the slightly inferior model, 4650 was quoted at rs. 5300! blasphemous!
shop 3, same thing..he made 2-3 calls and finally settled for 5700..i would take none of it..ive been following this baby for too long a time for me to buy that (price quote of course)...next shopwala toh said its "odd(pronounce:ode) item" so hell have to buy from others at the same rate...
shop no 5, amazingly seemed to give it away at 5000/-..immediately i tolm him to get it...but later came the catch: he said ill have to wait 2 hrs cos his man was stuck in vashi...n told me to call in the evening so that he could home deliver it...it suited me n i walked away joyfully with his business-card...no more enquiries for that day....
now its evening...i call him up..someone else fram the same shop picks up, n tells abhi tak aaya nahi hai....takes my cell no n promises to call back..my expectations go dwindling...but still hope prevails.....
next morning...still no call..I decide to go to "the road where prices are bloated", making my up my mind to return with a card, 4670 or not...
i go to one shop...he calls the supplier..n the most amazing thing happens..the supplier asks him "how the customer looks" ..n after its confirmed that im the same guy from the last day, he tells the dealer(as told by him, the shopwala) that "he the guy who was wanderin the whole day yesterday, for the card but not willing to pay up. pareshan karke rakha hai..n also adds that now even if he wants the card i wont send it!!!!" outrageous! so much for customer friendliness..so much for competitiveness...
guess all the shopowners i went to yesterday called up the same supplier! and now, he assentially had blacklisted me!
damn...that attitude..i was quite disgusted...but as i had decided to return with a gfx card or not return at all...
prepared for the final attempt...i went to prime abgb(i dont have any qualms taking names this time)..i had missed this shop before because it isnt located right in the front..its in a obscure lane..it looked different than the others..the salesmen were actually shirted up with a tie! rare for lammy..asked the price..quoted 5150/- but did not believe him till he called up someone( this time he spoke marathi...while all others i went to dealt in kuttchi with their supplier, so this guy wass different i guess) and actually ordered the card without any hike...and i actually got the card at 5150/- wow!
now maybe i was lucky...maybe some would get it cheaper from all other stores... but i learnt this from my experience..
1.do not just pick any new shop...have a trusted, regular dealer
2. shops which are NOT located on the main street tend to offer a better deal
3. The supplier can actually BLACKLIST you!!(learnt this first hand..still cant believe it)

so when you head to the lamington, be aware be demanding...

whatever i've written is my personal opinion.
and yes, i hate the ati "supplier".
 
There are so many deals here itself by TE dealers, you dont need to goto Lamington road. and yes you usually get the best prices here. Most of dealers in Lamington road are extremely rude, imagine selling a card is a pain for them what will after sales service be like ...
 
thz for the info......its a comman trick done by most of the markets in india .LOL... even dealers in nagpur does this stuff.

hence,reputed dealers are the best ppl to get stuff.
 
Well, when i discuss things like these with a PC Enthu in my locality, he tells me to totally avoid all these small shops. And also tells me that Gujus (plz, i'm talking abt the dealers! ) are the worst lot. Today, they may offer u prices that mebbe low than others, but tommorrow these same guys will turn a blind eye to ur problems.

Reputed dealers maybe bit costly (not ur case though), but they go out of their way to address our problems.

So, better, always i say, go to:

PRIME.

OMG and beware of those guys if you are not a gal. The dealer still remember how you look and that is not a good thing :rofl:
 
where exactly is prime abgb.....in a lane u said...

which side....... on the police stations or on cassette worlds side?

i know this shop challeger which is in a lane..so is it still ahead or on the opp side....been there thrice...but never once i got a chance to see prime...
 
i would suggest next time u go...

tell them straight u have idea about the product and it shd cost this much..say u know it cost 5.1k u know...tell them its ard 5k-or 5.05k if u can give me at that price than good or bye-bye....that way they quote real price....else them make margins upto2-3k on stuff....last time i bought a printer for 3.7k where a store quoted 5.5k for same
 
^^ +1 to magnet's advise ..

always do u r homework before going to buy anything.. and go to the shops and ask for the product at specific price, dont ask the price of a product..

prime is in a lane on the same side of the road as the police station. keep walking past the police station till you hit a small booze shop. right after the booze shop is a lil lane to the right. prime is in it. the place is known as Laxmi Compound.

The Booze Shop is no more... unfortunately. That was one of the best landmark to find Prime ABGB. Now it's some regular tech-shop, Laptop shop or something like that.

ok lets think of lamington road as a straight line...so it has two ends.one is the grant road station end and other we'll call "other end".
if you keep on walkin from station end, you'll hit other end....and theres a c grade theater there...but thats not swastik (i dont remember its name)...jus backtrack a little..nd ull see "swastik theater" written on a building compound on the same footpath...(i wonder y)..
ok when ur here, crossover to the opposite footpath
here ull find an entrance into the courtyard of the building(the building should be laxmi building/compound)...there on top ull see a small board saying prime agbg...its not easily readable though..thats y i missed it the first time

i actually did tell all of em that 5.1 is the right price....and thats y the supplier also said to the dealer that "ye 5100 ko mangta hai"

i agree...i actually was gonna do that...but my dad was uncomfortable with deposit n ship method...
 
The vertical road, [up] Grant Road End - [bottom] Other End

D.B. Ambedkar Rd. is what we know as Lamington Road, and Goregaon Police Station is the common landmark we all use for Lamington Rd.

Another landmark to remember is the Hotel on the opposite side, near Prime's location... It's starting with "V" if I remember correctly, unfortunately I can't seem to remember the name despite eating there numerous time. :P
 
yup prime abgb rocks I always purchase from them although they might charge u a little more sometime but after sales service is very good

@bond_212 yes they do home delivery and charges depend on the location and u can opt for cod opption.I was charged 100 bucks for delivery at kandivli east.
 
About those small traders on main street (the kutchchi speaking ones) , even i have had a crappy experience from them. forget about aftersales if u buy from them. Some of them dont even have basic knowledge of the hardware they are selling. Leave that they dont even have the decencey to speak to a customer who is spending thousands Rs in their shop.
