Hi,

I was returning to home for holidays from Delhi on 23rd by train, during the journey my laptop bag was stolen.
It contained a HP Probook Laptop, Blackberry Playbook 16gb, Seagate 2TB Goflex HDD, Golana Watch worth $189, Rs 1000 gift card from Central bank, headphones.
The lappie and external HDD contained my college study stuff, my photos and a lot of other data.
Is their anyway that i can get any of the above stuff back.
I'm ready to spend upto 20k to 30k for recovering the items.
I filed a raliway police report (FIR) ,what else could i do.
Ny help would be appreciated, i'm so disappointed at myself for being victim of such a incident.
How could i recover myself from such a loss.

very sorry to hear about your loss but unfortunately you cant do much with this loss.

Only police and trace the thief and get your stuff back.

really sorry to hear about your loss.

Really Sorry Dude..

But search online how to activate Playbooks GPS and send a mess from a remote comp and try it..

It should be done, if you had taken any precaution..

Anyway, My friend once lost his bag, but returned after 2 weeks... Police found it..

But, took some money as *AHEM* to give it back.. It had all except a few items and Mobile...

The Playbook lacks GSM connectivity , there is no way to contact it unless it is perhaps connected to a wifi hotspot.

Sorry to hear that man, but one of my friend's friend had been through a pretty same situation. His brand new dell laptop was stolen. But it was tracked by the support of police and Dell. I don't know much details of how it happened but, the laptop was protected by some kind of advanced protection (may be some kind of pass, like BIOS), and when the thief took it to a local shop to get it unlocked, it got traced! Contact HP, may be if they can be of some help.
I hope you may get you items soon :)

That can be done only on Dell laptops IIRC. They have a built in tracking system that Dell can trace.

what? Dell laptops can be traced? How?
There is a setting in the BIOS that you have to turn on IIRC. I will check and get back to you on that.

Ok it seems like no device is traceable .
So i suggest you go by traditional way.

Give some extra bucks for pandu and ask him to speed up the process .(They usually know the thief its just a matter of giving them more money).

One of my friends mobile was stolen from ghatkopar .After few days he spotted the thief near the station .
To avoid any problem he went to police station and informed them about thief location.

But that pandu didn't do anything .

same is the case with my friend from mumbai. Her laptop got stolen in midnight from home. Some one stole it from her house windows. She went to police station next day but police said they can not do much in such things :(

Sorry to hear about it.

However, if you were carrying all those things in the bag, the least you could have done is locked it and possibly even chained it to your seat/berth.

I've seen so many people chain their suitcases together or to their seats when there is hardly anything of significant value(typically). All kinds of people travel in trains, which is all the more reason why you need to keep your things safe.

I'm sure you will be extra careful next time round.

OMG, Terrible loss indeed. So sorry to hear about the loss. I hope the data loss is not more significant as compared to material loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss; if anyone in TE has a good connection with Delhi Police then please try to help the OP. Your only bet is to try the alternate route with the police. Indian police can do wonders if the proper channel is sought.

Since as tech wise people said it cant be traced.

Best is to bribe the peeps.

Give 2k and said you ready to pay 8k more if all important stuffs you get back as it contain office confidential data.

DOnt declare that goods were worth more than 50k but say data within it is damn precious as you working on some secret office project hence ready to pay.

But again chances are less.Sorry for the loss.

By the way in general i want to ask are there any software or malware whatever one say which when install on computer/lappy and if stollen it sends a mail to a pre determine email address ip address and so on.

Similar to mobile tracker stuff?
