again i failed to see from others perspective who are supporting sony here , for eg i buy a PC , if the cpu fries ., the serivce guy find and replace the cpu and charges me accordingly even if it out of warranty , within warranty we dont have to pay anything ..

- really pissed off ps3 owner :-(

Again, you had the conditions before you while you purchased the ps3.

You were not raising this mch tattle while others were being fried.

Just that it has happened to you, your frustrations now knows no bound.

You have the whole scenario before you as a buyer now.. so i think you ll make a better decision this time round.

But with the level of hyperness u exhibit.. i suggest you stick to pc gaming.

Atleast u ll have all the things you expect regarding repairs and the satisfaction. :)

why cant we ask them ? why are we letting this day robbery to occur ?
Have you tried talking to them and knowing the reason? Did they give you any satisfactory reply?

As soon as the warranty on mine is over, I'm going to ensure I dismantle the PS3 and replace the TIM atop the Cell and RSX IHS. Cannot be taking a big risk with prolonged hours of gaming.

similarly ps3 service centres are there to see where the problem is and rectify it.. if its cpu , replace it and charge it accordingly. hope i am very clear here this time.

yes i am , and many here are out of warranty period , that doesnt mean we have to keep our fingers crossed all the time ....

if it get fried , let the service guy fix it and charge accordingly and i am ready to pay..

the service guy told me something got fried due to voltage issue... well and good , i am sure bluray drive , HDD , panel , my controleer , and other stuff are intact. so why cant the service guy simply replace the fried one ?

if they cant (sony service guy ) then who can ? then why is sony is having a service centre ?

its not like some chineese product where the seller runs off after few days after selling tbhe product...

why cant we ask them ? why are we letting this day robbery to occur ?

No ones talking in favor of Sony here. Believe me, I have had a hell of a time getting my PS3 replaced from Sony (due to non availability of 60GB PS3's to replace mine) during the warranty period and I had to send an ultimatum to Sony and a number of people in the management to get my replacement sorted out. What people are saying is that your demands are not reasonable from any companies perspective.

Sony can always replace the Main board (remember almost every component is soldered on the main board and the boards are mass manufactured) and charge you for that if they wanted to. But the question is would you be fine to foot a bill thats about 50~70% the cost of a new unit? What if it goes bad again after a while. Would you not blame the company again. Electronics are not reliable, so you never know. For many companies it does not make business sense to offer repair service after warranty period. Even if they do, it costs them a lot more than the mere cost of the spare components and more so with devices like PS3.

They can always offer a repair service and charge a premium for it, but how many people would be ready to pay a premium for that. Meanwhile they still have costs to incur for the technical expertise they hired to carry out the repairs. Its a continuous cost for them. Its simpler for them to stick to replacing units under warranty rather than to repair them. Post warranty they don't have any obligation to replace free of cost, so instead they are offering a discount. In the end its simply a matter of business sense for them. Carrying repairs is not practical for them during warranty periods, leave alone after warranty expired.

One more thing, Sony does offer Post warranty repairs for certain products selectively. The ones for which it makes business sense for them to offer repairs. I have seen people bring in stuff made in the late 70's for repairs and they do repair them. Its not like they don't repair anything. They charge 1~2k for diagnosing the problem and letting you know whether it can be repaired and approximate repair/spare part charges. If the customer agrees, they do repair the stuff. In case of PS3, its simply not possible for them to offer repairs.

The PS3 is not a a PC, you have to understand that, its much more compicated in there

similarly ps3 service centres are there to see where the problem is and rectify it.. if its cpu , replace it and charge it accordingly. hope i am very clear here this time.

The PS3 service centres here are not qualified nor are they allowed to open or repair the PS3

if it get fried , let the service guy fix it and charge accordingly and i am ready to pay..

Again none of the Sony service centre staff are trained to fix it

the service guy told me something got fried due to voltage issue

Voltage issue in the PS3 or a voltage spike from ur house??

If its the latter then the PS3 or Sony are not to be blamed

i am sure bluray drive , HDD , panel , my controleer , and other stuff are intact. so why cant the service guy simply replace the fried one ?

Refer point 2 and 3, AFAIK they have no such option of sending it abroad.

if they cant (sony service guy ) then who can ? then why is sony is having a service centre ?

No one, if u want u can try a local repair guy, that what i did and paid the price, he messed up my PS3 and also swapped my working parts with burned and destroyed parts from some other PS3 which he had for repairs!!

its not like some Chinese product where the seller runs off after few days after selling the product...

No they arent, they offered u the proper replacement protocol for 25%-50% of the cost for a new one

why cant we ask them ? why are we letting this day robbery to occur ?

I can understand ur frustration and anger,i went thru it as well

- really pissed off ps3 owner :-(

So u either repair it by calling a local repair fellow and have it breakdown in a few months

As for the X360, yeah definitely go ahead, see how much time does it take for an RRoD to appear

Or else u can just stick to PC gaming

i have cenrted all the media world of mine with ps3 ,

remove ps3 , all others are worthless..

my onkyo 5.1 is sitting idle , and my 40 " lcd is worthless as its spitting local telecast with worst quality...

watching 1080 p ... i have dream now...

How did you connect your ps3 to the mains ?

Via a ups/stabiliser or direct to the wall socket.
