Glad to hear your wife is doing well now .
Some very valid points you' ve raised as well. A health check-up is one of the best things you can do to your body. Its amazing how little (and inexpensive) things that one can do often avoid bigger (and more expensive) complications later. And i am not even considering the mental anguish part.
A couple of years back the family doc asked my mom to get her Lipid Profile, Thyroid and Blood Sugar tests done. She was a little skeptical about it so i offered to take those tests with her (except Thyroid). The reports did us a world of good. My moms cholesterol and blood sugar levels were above normal and i was not far behind. The family doc made us aware of the future ramifications of these results. Two years since, following a regimen of healthy food intake and heavy exercise (in my case), both our cholesterol and blood sugar levels are at the lower end of the normal range. The result - feel healthy, active and fresh.
Although my doc advised me against getting these tests done every year (not needed he said - once every 3-4 years for peeps in 20s is enough) i still do it when i get it done for mom. It gives me goosebumps to think of what would have been the eventual outcome in case we hadnt done those tests. Again how small things make such a big difference !!
