Hi Guys,

Need suggestions for a laptop for a friend
  • What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.) 50-60k max
  • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming) Office work mainly incluidng web surfing+different apps. Maybe an hour or two gaming max a month+same time for video editing
  • What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between) 15.6" with numlock keys
  • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell) Any brand with good customer support
  • Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.) Mentioned below
- Even a 1080p display will suffice, the more the merrier. The bezels should be minimum.
- Atleast 128gb ssd+1tb hdd if possible. ssd or nvme whichever is fine in this budget.
- Best gpu, battery backup and screen in this budget
- If the same has adp alongside warranty then great. Also ready to pay for adp if its cheap
- If the laptop comes with a preinstalled windows then fine, if it is with no OS then great only if its cheaper.
- The most important thing, it should be easy to clean/update by the user. I mean some brands make it too hard to open the laptop and clean or update it.

He is looking to exchange his old hp ab032tx laptop so please share exchange experiences from online websites also.

Very hard to recommend honestly. Best gpu, best battery backup and best screen below 70k are all different laptops. So it is about tradeoffs.

Based on your usecase I would say get a ryzen 5500u 16gb ram HP pavilion laptop. It will cost close to 60k. Doesnt have a dedicated gpu, but do you really need it.

If you definitely need a gpu then your best option in the budget is lenovo ideapad gaming or this one from HP

HP Pavilion Gaming AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 15.6 inches FHD Gaming Laptop (8GB/512GB SSD/Windows 11 Home/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB Graphics/ Shadow Black & Ultra Violet/ 1.98 Kg), 15-ec2150AX https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09MF8KMRW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DTEB926B24RPGFAYZXEW

Please note that gpu and battery life are inversely proportional. Dedicated gpu laptops are meant to be run on AC power and have lower batteries in most cases plus H series processors have higher TDP

As mentioned, difficult to get best at that price without compromises. It will mostly be the screen that will take the hit. Low brightness(average 250 nits)is common across machines in this price. If screen is important, I would say attaching the output from laptop to a good quality screen for whatever task you are doing.
When I was looking for laptops, I found Lenovo had the option of upgrading ram. But that was 2 years ago. Thisngs have changed, with shortage of semiconductors and parts. Asus does have an OLED screen, but almost all of their components are soldered. You will have to manually go to the store and ask for the chosen laptop if you can upgrade or are components soldered.

This does look good...

Like you said. Screen will need to suffer. I use a Lenovo TN panel and it is terrible. The Ram is upgradable from current 4+4 to 4+8.. the only way to make the screen better is to get a monitor indeed.

Not whining though as i got a 512 ssd, ryzen 5500u and 8gb ram at just 45k

I get it... Even I was a bit sceptical about getting lenovo especially with only 250 nits for my aunt, who would probably use it under the impact of sunlight. It am sure it would get completely washed out. But since it was occasional use outside, it would have been a major issue.
She anyways dropped the idea, as she upgraded her existing laptop with 512 gb ssd and 4+4 ram.

Thank you guys. Updated preferences-

- Atleast a 1080p display, preferably a LED. The bezels should be minimum.
- Atleast 128gb ssd+1tb hdd if possible. ssd or nvme whichever is fine in this budget.
- VFM gpu and battery in this budget. You guys are right that a gpu with the usage needed might never be used. But letting go of a great screen is better than letting go of a gpu which might come in handy at some point

The harassement-packard laptops suggested above are a big no because a. not easy to clean or update and b. the customer support is horrible.

Someone suggested a Lenovo laptop for 58-60k, don't recall the exact specs or the model name. It had 2 years warranty+1 year of adp for free. 120 or 240gb of ssd+1tb hdd. Windows 10 upgradeable to 11. 1650 nvidia gpu. It is basically a gaming laptop. I am on limited internet so not able to check about the same online. The ryzen version is like 4-5k expensive. Does this one fit the requirements? Is the customer support of Lenovo good? Is it easy to open up and clean or upgrade?

There is a 1650ti version of this but comes with Ryzen 5 4600h instead of 5600h see if you can get that for 60k.This sku has 256gb wd sn550 ssd which is quite fast and a 1tb hard drive. No display out via usb-c though unlike asus tuf laptops that have output to usb-c for multiple displays. But have shit cooling, very small vents. Hp one has large inakte vents and Usually goes between 60-62k,checkout reliance digital they have good offers on this sku. Sometimes retails at 65k. But then at 65k might aswell put in more money and get the rtx 3050 omen version at 70k or older gtx 1660 gtx 1660ti ones. But rtx has dlss so that is sort of great.Lamington road has good prices for this sku in mumbai.

@icysmoke @Kaleen Bhaiya

How much is the performance difference between these two laptops

vs

The second laptop does not have a preinstalled hdd though.

Is it true that AMD laptops have less resale value as compared to the intel one's?

Need another laptop for someone, same specifications as from the original post minus the gpu, require the same for day to day office work. Any recommendations?

You can check this out too.

HP Victus AMD Ryzen 5-5600H 16.1-inch(40.9 cm) Micro-Edge, IPS, Anti-Glare, FHD Gaming Laptop(8GB RAM/512GB SSD/4GB GeForce RTX 3050Ti Graphics/Win 11/Alexa Built-in/B&O Audio/2.48 kg, 16-e0350ax https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09RX2S3C8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_gl_i_QBDNMG2Z9MMJ3T546QC9

for this price range(60-65) you can get 1650ti laptop's in the hp pavallion gaming or asus tuf(bad airflow design avoid) series albeit with ryzen 4600h instead of 5500h but 1650ti make big difference over 1650 check reliance digital, croma etc. i got mine for 62.5k in reliance that too during the global chip shortage.

Bhai strictly no hp at all. a. their customer support is pathetic and b.they are the mess to open up. Dell is also in this list though their customer support is better.
Moreover I need a laptop which has preinstalled hdd+ssd

So, 4600h is fine over 5500h?
Bro I have roamed the whole city but couldn't find any laptop by any oem with hdd+ssd. As per the stores they are phasing out laptops with hybrid drives.

Hard disk ka zamana gaya bhai. Most laptops come with M.2/NVMe now even in affordable range.
HDD is a point of failure and super slow. Also to make laptops lightweight and thin they don't have space for HDD anymore. It's better to use a USB 3.x external HDD for data.

He does not want to open up a new laptop after seeing that my laptop is fcked when I opened it to add a ssd https://techenclave.com/threads/software-that-can-disable-useless-background-services.204191/ though it gets unfrozen after clicking on reset devices so don't know what actually is causing this

all laptop's are a b to open up these days, always use a plastic tool to open it, no metal or you will end up A shorting something out if it touches the mobo or b causing a fire if it accidentally hits the battery. The 3050 ti victus one is a great deal for 72k. If you endup using the wrong tools every laptop out there will be a B to clean, open etc. The airflow design is great tbh on hp laptop's,Victus series is even better. my cousin has a asus tuf laptop and its overheats and throttles. + 144hz display, no troubles with dual booting on linux unlike some other brand laptop's, no pre soldered ram like acer or lenovo.

what city ? if you are getting a 1650ti over a 1650 then 4600h is fine. That is a worthy compromise. hdd+ssd so many laptops are there. lenovo legion 5 series, acer nitro 5, hp pav gaming almost all the models in these have 1tb hdd + 256 gb ssd.

Can you share the links of the plastic tools about which you are talking about?
Atleast 1 tb of space is needed in the laptop, is that hp laptop having a slot for the hdd or just for the nvme? How much is the average price for a nvme? Dont necessarily need the fastest one, even a normal one would be okay. Does it void the warranty if a nvme is added in the warranty period? I have heard that some oem's void the warranty and have even stickers pasted which tells them if the laptop is opened or not? Is the ram soldered in this laptop or any other issues that needs to be known beforehand?

Tried in 2 big cities in Punjab, in almost all the major pc shops. No one has 1650ti here just a 1650 with 4600h and that too with a ssd and no hdd slot.

Lenovo is also having soldered ram's? I thought that is the issue with Acer laptop's only?
These laptop's don't have soldered ram's, right? https://techenclave.com/threads/need-a-vfm-laptop.205181/post-2358799

Heard bad things about almost all of them even MSI, Acer.

Someone here explained very well Laptop buying is now like walking in a mine field .

You just have to be lucky .

In my opinion just buy the one that gives you best value for money unless you are 100% about customer service as I know many have had both good and bad experience with most of these companies.
